Porn Block - April start

So I see in the papers the long awaited age verification porn block system will finally come into effect in April this year. Has there been an indication from the site owners as to how this will effect the site?

I am guessing any explicit pictures will have to be age protected but then what about some of the forum posts and profile text. They can be pretty explicit too.

Be nice to know in advance if there are going to be any changes.

Last I heard, the government hadn't actually announced how this was going to be enforced, but judging by the way it's hit all of the papers today, presumably something has leaked out.

It doesn't matter. VPNs are the solution.

Is this a membership only website? Anyone can sign up with an email address and immediately access pornographic content (profile text, forum, chat room, etc). It will be interesting to see what is considered pornographic and what isn't which applies to lots of other sites as well.

How the porn ban will affect this site? I'm not sure but I'm hoping it won't cause any serious affect.

I do find a bit of a downside to this ban. If this is to protect children from online porn, adults will probably find other ways to see porn in porno mags and DVDs which kids will probably find even if they're hid somewhere in the house.

I don't know if it is a membership only site hence the question but guess access to membership may have to be tightened up with proof of ID possibly.

After looking into it, I found that it doesn't seem as bad as it looks.

I read that the AgeID verification is only needed to be done once meaning that if you go onto any porn site and verify your age, it won't ask for your AgeID again after that.

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

I can find where the law was supposed to come into force in April 2018, I can find that UN opposed the 2017 bill which covers porn sites almost accidently, so doesn't have much on defining a porn site. the UN objected to parts where the UK government could block any site it felt like blocking without a court order, which was considered enough of an infringement of civil liberties to cause the UN to write a letter to the UK Government.

But I cant find any credible sources that say it is coming on 1st April 2019.

Is this real, or is it just the morning of April 1st?

Because you'll be in the porn database and you're being watched and logged. lol I can see Diane Abbott getting her castration shears out if she ever got into power. The good news is she might have found something she good at after all these years.

I didn’t have a credit card when I joined my current network, I had to go in to the store and explain my predicament! Granted, I didn’t say I couldn’t get porn but it was blaringly obvious what I meant. My story about not being able to get on gambling sites and watch 18rating movies on iTunes

"I think the ban applies to commercial websites that distribute pornographic videos and photos.

Essentially this, there is no way for them to lockdown all of the smaller websites out there. That task in itself would be a huge pain and even more waste of resources for them. Especially when it is so easy to get around through use of a vpn.

For the majority of people out there, going to one of the big porn sites (if viewing from within the UK) will require you to sign up to this age verification bullshit (then a simple sign in each time after) before you can view any porn.

However it does not apply to smaller sites, or sites that are not dedicated towards the distribution of porn. Social media, sex blogs, chat communities etc.

For those that don't know, a vpn essentially hides your UK based IP address behind one from another country. So you will be viewing these porn sites as if you were viewing them from USA, France, Germany etc. Getting around the UK enforced age verification.

"Protecting kids from porn is a good thing & making sites credit card controlled will work but it's going to be almost impossible to implement such a thing on the net."

It is a poorly thought up and implemented way of protecting children from porn.

First of all it is such a thing that parents should be doing and protecting their children from if they believe it is something they need to be protected from. Second, there are already many other things in place to stop children accessing porn. Family filters, parental controls, even ISPs have it in place where account holder can ask them to block content not intended for children. Children in the know will have no problem getting around this anyway, so it is far from a good protection anyway.

Storing peoples information in this way for such content is bullshit. The whole Ashley Madison situation proved that. I'm far from a tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist but having the direct link of your details and your porn usage is a bad idea in the hands of the government. Your limited access won't stop there, in the future they will be looking to control much more than just your porn.nthis is an easy target to test the waters and see what they can get away with.

Yes very true. Plus the age control requirement is for any pornographic content not just pictures and videos. That includes the text in profiles plus the forum (particularly fantasy section). It will be the case that the whole site requires it or not.

Except pornographic content is everywhere. Be it a blog, a Facebook page, or scientific study. Very difficult to police all of that. Somebody could have a topless picture on their twitter account. This will not be applied to such things.

It has been reported that smaller none commercial websites will not have this restriction as it is impossible to do so. Which is why it is only targeted at the larger more widely known and obvious websites... To begin with.

I'm sure this site is more than just pornographic images. I see it as more as an online community for swingers to chat with like minded people (whether by messaging or forums) and make friends.

I must add that clubs across the UK use Fab to post events for people to attend. If the porn ban was to affect Fab (even though I find this unlikely), how would any of us who go to clubs be able to know what events are on and how would hosts of the clubs be able to get in touch with us as the ban would probably affect their businesses?

The ban will effect this site & all other sites that show explicit sex, thousands of businesses will be put into jeopardy but that won't bother our government & just add to the thousands businesses already screwed.

we based our businesses in America & Holland 5yrs ago because of the planned changes & will have to use proxy servers to allow UK citizens to see our sites, The BBFC will take control & censor the hell out of our internet.

We are already using Whats-app Snap Chat Twitter etc so porn will simply move to other platforms like phones. Fab

What's worrying me is that Admin don't seem to be ready to say anything on the matter. I'm sure behind the scenes they have looked into it, they may even have some form of back-up plan, but it would be nice to know that something is in place, or what the options might be.

I don't want to wake up one morning and find I cant access Fab, and have no way of contacting people we want to stay in touch with.

I'm sure that if the porn block was gonna affect Fab in any way, Admin would inform us about it.

I still think it won't have any affect on Fab plus there are many planned events posted here in the forums weeks even months after April 1st."

Most websites have not informed their users about it yet so Fab could be the same.

I still say wait and see, I suspect that the reason FAB Admin haven't said or done anything, is because they dont know anything yet.

This whole idea has been formally objected to by the UN and the 1st of April supposed start date makes me suspicious.

If this is going to affect fab,I'm sure admin would have put a message in our updates and answered a thread

As there won't be many people online on the 1st April

I think it's more about blocking easy access to xhamster, pornhub and other free porn sites.

I've read many articles and it seems that you can prove your age once, and have an email and password to get on any porn sites whether paying or free, something many won't bother with,as it means there be on a database as a porn watcher

Xhamster, Pornhub etc are not posting anything either so it is not safe to assume it is not happening here because of silence. We may well first find out the day we can no longer get in.

Not sure what is different between porn sites and this site. You can sign up here in 5 minutes and be accessing pornographic material for free.

How weird. Only comes up on computer screen rather than mobile. Even when I completed it then it would still pop up. Cannot remember if it is there now or not.

I notice porn hub is offering free premium membership. I wondered if it had anything to do with the change coming.

I personally think this whole thing is utter bullshit dreamt up by the moralistic Christian Right.

As we know, porn accounts for a huge percentage of internet traffic and it's not all down to a shabby guy called Dick with an unbelievable insatiable porn addiction. Porn is watched by many people, many secretly. VHS video was chosen over a superior technology due to the porn industry using that format. Just the huge amount of categories and subcategories hints at the diversity of taste and viewers.

It's the taboo and also guilt (Catholicism) aspects of porn which i think is at the heart of the problem and pushes content under ground making it easier for damaging exploitative material to be consumed by under ground networks. I was going to add the word distribution, but really nasty material is shared amoung people, not distributed to people (as such).

Where something is hidden, others are naturally drawn to find out what and why its taboo. Especially children and young people who are trying to understand the world and adulthood. We live in such a sexualised society now (which only becomes obvious when time spent away in a different culture). Meaning that it's around us all the time, used to sell products etc and has become part of how children and young adults are judging and seeing eachother because they are immersed in it just as we are.

I've no idea about answers. Doing just about anything to stop the inquisitive will be beaten by the determined. And we're dealing with a subject matter that encompasses all shades of human emotion and motivation. Much of it misogynistic and geared towards male arousal.

Maybe if the variety of things kids could autonomously do was safe, fun interesting and fulfilling, they would naturally play in their own made up worlds, but essentially they are forced to be in the adult world we inhabit because of the insecurities we have about the world we've built.

IF it is real.... so far it seams to be the Sun and the Metro is the key source for all stories.

A simple VPN will circumvent it. No need to go to the trouble of TOR.

Just seen a bit about this on the daily politics show yes I am a sad old git

It’s not coming in just yet but soon

They are thinking that you go to a registered shop where you pay a fixed amount and show some form of Id like driving licence you get given a code

Not sure if you enter the code every time or just once

There is nothing online to say it has delayed yet again. It still shows as being next month. What date did they say on the programme?

That is also only one of the methods. Some websites will allow you to put the driving licence number into the website directly. Or take a photo of your face to work out age.

It takes one second to get around the block. It is a pointless feature. They did it with torrent and warez sites blocked them it took under 24 hours for the downloads to go back to normal. Its a waste of money, kids will learn how to get around it.

It is also silly to say you can prove ID in a local shop and get a card that gives access, that would require honest shop staff, and international co-ordination of thousands of independant porn sites, many of which are probably run by the kids they want to block!

There is still no mention of it on Ofcom which is supposed to be organising and policing it.

"Also it is impossible to block the millions of porn sites out there."

It isn't, it's not difficult for computer software to identify if a website contains adult material or not. Mobile service carriers already do it, fab is blocked for me on my mobile data.

I have a paid VPN service so I don't care about what draconian laws our luddite government wants to introduce, aint gonna affect me

"How the porn ban will affect this site? I'm not sure but I'm hoping it won't cause any serious affect.

I do find a bit of a downside to this ban. If this is to protect children from online porn, adults will probably find other ways to see porn in porno mags and DVDs which kids will probably find even if they're hid somewhere in the house."

A great number of kids are far more tech savvy than any of us adults. Does anyone (including the Government) actually think this will stop said kids accessing porn on the web?

To be honest, if you actually read what the people in the "know" explain the reason and wh for this ban, even the kids could teach them how it is a bad idea.
