"Depends on what I would be doing otherwise. I am VERY selective with my friends, most of whom have moved away. I have friends now living all over the country, or in other countries. A large portion of my online time is spent chatting to them. " Yeah get that big difference when it's people you know in person too.

"It’s a really interesting question I’ve wasted hours on here and other such places. However the virtual world does allow me to stay in touch with friends and family all over the world. I’d have to say that perhaps I personally might be better off without it" I think for many it swings in roundabouts.. it's a great tool but easy to get carried away and not do things that would enhance your day to day life because this is so easy..

"There have certainly been timed since the dawn of the internet as a virtual world that I've got to the end of a day and thought there are so many better things I could have done other than spend it on-line - even now I still think I miss out on some of life's simple pleasures (like reading for example) at times because I am too easily distracted by the 10 x 6 piece of plastic, metal and glass I hold in my hand. That said, I have met some wonderful people I otherwise wouldn't have done if I didn't spend that time here so it's a double edged sword that has both enhanced and detracted from my life." Exactly that!! I'll have a spare hour and instead of picking up the book I'm enjoying, I'll pick up my phone for 5 minutes and waste an hour doing nothing!!

"Personally I don’t think it’s particularly healthy to ‘live’ in a virtual world to the extent it hinders what you do / happens in reality. For me, I enjoy chatting on here, messing about with people, occasionally meeting but when I have a lot going on in my real life I back off here and don’t login." Yeah I agree.. I think it's too easy to not get out sometimes. Even a few hours here and there can add up to time that could be more productively used. As soon as life gets busy it's gone.

"The virtual world expands the actual world we live in and brings with it more pleasures and enjoyment … just a thought. It can get a bit addictive but can also be good therapy at times." I agree, it's the same as with many things in life; it's not the thing itself but the manner in which it's used which can be beneficial or detrimental

I'm annoying myself by not achieving other things.. " I'm not sure if I agree 100% with this as an argument against time online though. The time we spend online could in theory be used doing other things, but how many of us use our time and days so efficiently? If you were given the time back in the odd hour, here and there, when it was spent, how many people would use it for those things that needed doing? To me it seems a little like when people talk about quitting smoking and 'all of the money' they'll save and spend on holidays. In reality it just gets frittered away on other things instead.

" I suppose if its replacing lazy things like Tv time anyway it isnt so bad, we all need down time. Its just when I know I have other things I want to do that reqire some effort, a quick log on online is so much easier and distracting. (Not that sort of log for the filthy minded)

"Do you think that the amount of time you spend online is a benefit or hinderance to your life? Been pondering this with a friend and we've both admitted that we've missed out on doing things because of how easy it is to lose time online. Whilst much of this is talking to people we class as friends, much time is wasted skimming through and not doing or planning anything. So do you think you have a balance? Or could you enjoy life more by living in the actual world rather than this virtual one?? " Hi op! As I definitely ‘make the most’ of fab - fab is both the virtual world and the real world to me - ie all my sex life is via here - as is most of my social life - and most of my friends are on here! Obviously work and family are priority - along with other duties - but I don’t mind putting a little time into this when I get so much out of it!

"Good question. I started off full of enthusiasm all wide eyed and bussy tailed. Thinking what I was looking for would be here someone to travel this journey with. The first few mths were great. But after a few bad experiences I've lost my mojo totally and a lot of my self confidence and esteem. I've actually had less sex since being on here-work that one out. Yes to much time spend on here but hopefully once the spring comes and I come out of hibernation I'll get back out into the real world and or start talking to folk local to me. " Maybe that's a large part of it too.. I hibernate in winter so have no intention of going anywhere.. maybe it's cabin fever setting in!?

"I think i've struck a fine balance between being on here or keeping myself busy or being productive with real world activities. At times i've been away for several days to a week and didn't feel any "withdrawal" symptoms though i'll admit there is a certain allure to this place. I don't really use any of the traditional social media and can't really see the appeal. What fab has done is given me a whole new set of friends that I tend to spend more time conversing with than my pre fab vanilla ones and there is where I feel I need to find better balance." I find this too.. it's very easy to have conversation on here and truly fascinating at times. But I wonder if I make equal effort with vanilla friends.. probably not.

"I have phases. Sometimes I'll use the Forum at a prolific rate Others not at all. I'm not often on it to look for local meets. I've seen or politely messaged most locals who interest me over the time I've been on. Ideally I'd like to meet a woman who likes me enough as I am, to fall in love with me and I her. I can't think of many other places in the world where I can admit to being a little bisexual AND the occasional bit of dress up time. Also a man that wants to swing WITH my loved one. Where else I can I do that without potentially hurting her feelings and mine.. or send her running for the hills? Hopefully I'm here to stay tjis time.. Hopefully someone out there will give me a regular reason to not log on so often. If not.. I'm happy chilling out and letting my friends educate me.. maybe even have sex with one or two of them." It's certainly somewhere that feels like home where I can speak about anything and everything with people who truly get it.. unlikely I'd find anyone outside here that would understand in the same way.

"It's a distraction a place that can make me smile, think, pass some time, watching the world go by and occasionally posting something inane on a thread or two. It can be easy to just watch and read, listen to others, and drift along like a stick bobbling down a stream,... Too easy sometimes... It may not be where I want to be, yet that's a place I cannot be. So I just wander quietly in the background, and watch the threads go by.... " Oops you did it again... #Swoon

You don’t have to go out to do this you can stay in your jammies on the sofa - can pick it up & put it down as and when you want to for example. If you’ve found a niche group on here that you interact with it’s like a ready made social life. Is it a solid foundation for long lasting friendships or is or for the here & now. Not knocking it and probably not getting across what I really mean.
