"I think the sparing dick head is Comeing tonight. He's agressive. He tries to hurt you. I'm getting more and more afraid of him in sparing... The other people I spar don't try to injure me. It's more fun with them. How do I keep myself calm? I feel anxious but want to overcome it. How do I counter his agression in muay thai? If I go harder he goes to levels I can't deal with. He's not like the other fighters..." Throw some salt in his eyes and for good measure stick fiery jack all over your knuckles and feet If that doesn’t help run like fook

" I trained muay Thai for 15 years, unfortunately you get people like that,it will actually help your defence in the long run, but if you Reay don't want to spar with him then talk to your trainer" Hard sparing is good with friends and people you can have a laugh with. I'm trying to learn from the experience and not let it put me off because everyone else is fine.

"Sweep the leg." I'm working on stepping round the sides of people. I can clinch him and throw him but I don't feel so bold. I often do a little roundhous/put my guard up....and "teep" him when he comes at me... My new strategy I'm learning is stepping to the sides instead of going backwards... I've clinched him before and he just dead legged me twice... I don't want to make too much of a fuss about it.. He's not exactly a nice guy like my other partners. I want to overcome being a pussy about it and learn to relax more with people who intimidate me. My other partners don't intimidate me because we communicate.

We rarely fight the ones we like when you step in the ring intimdation is the 1st blow, and hes hitting you in the balls with it. front up make joke put him off his normal grumpy wanker face, show him theres no fear and he may not seem so intimidating

"Your trainer should not let you spar against someone who is to far above your level or should intervene if he is becoming to aggressive sparring is about developing technique and stamina yes an element of challenge is good as is putting you under a bit of pressure to build your abilitys confidence or preparation for a proper fight i.e. Competition etc. Sounds to me thou that the guy your sparring with doesn't get what sparring is about and just wants to win or bully you if that's encouraged I'd suggest joining a different club " Sounds like a bully actually

No one wants anyone in their club who goes 100% in sparring, especially against a beginner. I’m suprised your instructor hasn’t noticed. If you aren’t enjoying it think about trying something else, BJJ for example where you can very safely go full on. In Muay Thai you are going to take some hard knocks. But a swingers forum probably isn’t the best place to be coming for sparring advice, speak to your instructor or join a martial arts forum

"I got kicked in the nuts at one fight I had, split my groin guard in half" My old groin guard was at one point held together by epoxy glue and bodge tape. The point where it split, then caught my foreskin and half my right nut in it wasn't the most pleasant thing i have experienced..

Muay Thai doesn't have a belt system, so I will relate to a martial art that does. Would you walk into a club as an absolute beginner and expect to be put up against a senior grade or black belt to have them use you for target practice with no recourse? Would you fuck. You learn the basics with people at your own level, then as you improve you can start to spar with those above you. It is the responsibility of those above you to match your level and supply the opposition you need to learn. Or another example. Could you go from passing your driving test to driving an F1 car? No. It would never happen.. In sparring you need to be tested and pushed, not just beaten for shits and giggles.

"The only zone you’ll learn in , is the one outside your comfort zone . Painful but true " You learn and improve when you are in the stretch zone (Just outside the comfort zone) not in the panic zone.. Same as you improve your driving doing track days etc, not while you are about to crash..

Having trained and fought in Thailand, the Thai don't train that way. Also as a 4th Dan in one of the hardest traditional Japanese Ju Jitsu schools in the country we always go by the tenet "don't break your toys or they won't want to play any more". We used to have to do breakfalls with height on concrete. But we worked up to that. That was 1st Dan. I am speaking (or writing) from a position of considerable experience. If you are surmising that martial arts schools should just beat students up and give them anxiety, then you, sir, are a fool.

"Just tell him. I'm not to your level so calm the fuck down. Or use it to get better!?" Exactly this. Tell him to take it easy - it's only sparing! If he doesn't, have a quiet word with the instructor/coach and explain you're considering leaving. To put it on a different context, you wouldn't expect to have a lesson with a pro tennis player and for them to blast out 100mph serves or to play their top game.
