I think it's the only feasible solution for housing male bodied people who consider themselves to be women.

They can't stay with men or women.

It's unfair to put them with either.

They will get abused by men...

They will win every fight vs women.

"This is a waste of money.

Why?"

Just read a bit on it there. I would actually say ok. Fair enough spend. They should not be in a female prison. Then it makes you think. If the prison or prison service creates these units. They must not recognise these 'woman' as such. So why are the public supposed to accept it? If a member of the public were to suggest seperate units, we are transphobic. The reigns on transgenderism need pulled in. Until more can be understood about it. Personally i believe in man is man, woman is woman. If anyone wants to morph them together or swap around. That's grand. There are psychatrists that can work with you. Just don't expect me to agree. 99% of the population is either male or female and identify as such. Transgender issues affect such a small fraction of the population. Yet we are still supposed to pander to all their whims. I believe its a psychological problem. Instead of addressing this. These people effected are being exploited by left wing ideologues to push their agendas.

Good spend though. We have a duty to keep all safe. After reading about the unit. I agree with it. For safety of all.

The trans issue isn't a left v right thing, by the way. There's plenty of left wing people, like me, who consider trans ideology to be regressive.

What I mean by trans ideology is the metaphysical ideas that most trans activists appear to hold: that gender is somehow innate, that there are no real differences between biological women and trans women, that sort of thing.

I disagree with that metaphysics in the same way I disagree with religious metaphysics. Which is quite consistent to respecting both religious and trans people and wanting them to live lives free of prejudice and harassment.

So whilst I don't agree with the trans belief system, I don't object to society reasonably accommodating people for whom this is a massive part of who they are, if it can be done without harming others.

Probably an idea worth exploring, yes. Strange how the news report this morning concentrated on the fact that a trans person had attacked a female prisoner...as if this was the idea for it....I mean it's not as if attacks take place in prison at any other time, is it?!

From what I beleve, Tthe issue stems from a very small number of self identified trans prisoners committing sexual assaults whilst in prison.

Sexual assaults also occur in same sex prisons but unless you segregate all prisoners, you won't get round the problem.

Gay, prison straight and straight inmates commit / are victims of sexual assaults, not only from inmates but guards also. Not all the time, but it happens. It isn't always sexually motivated, sometimes it is about power or control.

A trans prison is a visible sign of the authorities being see to do something.

Ever since the rapist changed his sex and abused women in the womens prison when moved there, well they had to come up with a solution.

I think its silly, they are criminals, I dont give a fuck if they beat each other to death. Prisons are meant to keep us safe, sick of following the rules, its not easy, and having to worry about people who break the rules. Fuck them. If a few innocent people get beaten in jail, so what, anything to keep prison a punishment.

Prison is also to rehabilitate and return offenders to society in a safe manner. Not saying it works, just saying what it should do.

Maybe ship em all off to an island and let them kill each other?

I know you're joking, but I wouldn't mind if they all killed each other on an island, the streaming rights for it could fill prop the economy up after brexit.

I personally do not believe in rehabilitation of adults, that is something they should embark on themselves and not something we should pay to have done for them as it cant be forced on people.

Trans prisoners are housed in a separate wing away from the general population, they are escorted to their jobs by screws and do everything separately to the general population, so it's a complete waste of money, the money would be better spent helping prisoners once they leave prison yo find accommodation and jobs which in turn would reduce reoffending

I don’t suppose most of the men want to go in the men’s either. I’m not sure on this one to be honest. So would they get a choice with which prison? Can they decide they don’t like this one and ask to go to a men’s prison?

They do recognise transgender prisoners but they also recognise than managing them in a 2 sex system is not workable. They are not safe in the make estate and, depending on their index offence, pose a risk to those in the female estate.

Your views on this bring a purely psychological phenomenon are intruiging. Do you say the same as those who are gay or bi?

Not strictly true. They may be housed on wings for vulnerable prisoners but I doubt there are enough at any one prison to warrant having their own wing.

I understand you saying "why should we punish then further" but what about all the other at risk groups in prison, why should trans get special treatment? Please don't think I have some sort of phobia, I don't, but I don't understand why they should receive special treatment. There are so many vulnerable prisoners, the old don't have special geriatric prisons, gay/bi don't have specialist prisons (and they get bullied terribly) I just don't think it's a precident that we should set

Surely trans men should go to male prison and trans women should go to female prison? Why should they get their own private prisons I thought we were supposed to treat them the same as everyone else and recognise them as their chosen gender, equality and all that.

"Surely trans men should go to male prison and trans women should go to female prison? Why should they get their own private prisons I thought we were supposed to treat them the same as everyone else and recognise them as their chosen gender, equality and all that.

im sure you have your own very special prison

Is it wrong to treat them equal to everyone else? Isn't that what they've always wanted?"

Yes it is, when it effects women in a negative way.

Personally I think it's the only logical solution.

It's not right to put a transgender woman into a male prison but at the same time obviously that is open to abuse so I think this is the only feasible solution.

"Probably the only solution. You certainly can’t put them in a woman’s prison and they obviously don’t want to be in the men’s. "

I don’t think it’s a matter of ‘wanting ‘ rather than safety! Prisons contain a large number of violent and occasionally bigoted people - almost certainly a much larger proportion than in the outside world! The punishment is incarceration - it’s the prison system’s responsibility to ensure that each gender/group is as safe as possible!

Can you imagine just how tough pepple who are different (For what ever reason) are treated in jail.

Overcrowding, cuts etc. jails are not the cushy place they've been known to be.

Jails are tough places and shouldn't be made tougher becauae of one's sexuality.

You go to prison As punishment, not FOR punishment.

Why should a woman serving her punishment, be punished again by being violently or sexually assaulted by potentially much stronger trans woman?

This happened.

Also a trans woman in a male prison would suffer terribly. Why the extra punishment on top? That’s not justice.

Then a trans man in a male prison could also be victimised by generally much stronger men.

The news that they are now building trans prisons is certainly a good thing if you have any consideration for justice.

Why?

Transgenderism a "problem"? Really? Yes, there are 2 sexes, but transgenderism is how you identify in terms of gender and totally separate from your "sex".

But to answer the OP's question, I'm not sure separate prisons are the way forward, although I could see separate Wings or prison blocks possibly working as an alternative, albeit in a discriminatory way, but if it makes it a safer environment for all who are affected it should be considered

I believe that there is not enough understood about transgenderism. Especially not enough to put things into law. I don't believe that there are more than two sexes and genders. Am i a bigot? No. Not at all. Nothing bigoted about disagreeing with you or anyone. The advancement of surgical practices and technology enable transitions. Without that ability. There is no natural way of making the transition. Where would that leave people who identify as a different sex?

"Trans prisoners are housed in a separate wing away from the general population, they are escorted to their jobs by screws and do everything separately to the general population, so it's a complete waste of money, the money would be better spent helping prisoners once they leave prison yo find accommodation and jobs which in turn would reduce reoffending

Not strictly true. They may be housed on wings for vulnerable prisoners but I doubt there are enough at any one prison to warrant having their own wing.

They are placed onto a VP wing, which includes sex offenders, the wings are very secure with an abundance of staff, I don't understand why they should have their own specialist unit, like any other part of society there will always be vulnerable people, the amount of mentally I'll people in prison is frightening but the waiting time for specialist units is ridiculous, trans prisoners are not at any greater risk than any other prisoner, yes there will be bullying but again everyone is subjected to that, provision is made for trans people (you can buy make up and other similar products on the weekly canteen, what we must remember is that they have committed a crime and they need to face the consequences, of course there safety is paramount but this is already being provided in separate wings for vulnerable prisoners

But in their mind they are females being kept in a make prison. This isn't just about safety it's also about decency which is something they aren't always afforded currently.

They have faced the consequences. Their liberty has been taken from them. They are removed from their loved ones. Why should we punish them further?

I understand you saying "why should we punish then further" but what about all the other at risk groups in prison, why should trans get special treatment? Please don't think I have some sort of phobia, I don't, but I don't understand why they should receive special treatment. There are so many vulnerable prisoners, the old don't have special geriatric prisons, gay/bi don't have specialist prisons (and they get bullied terribly) I just don't think it's a precident that we should set "

I completely agree! This society is becoming a bit of a joke if I'm being honest. Money being wasted on this and like you say, older, gay etc next it'd be race being thrown into the mix and separating races from eachother because it'd become a race thing next. People are becoming way too sensitive and politically correct that it's now becoming normal to be scared to say no to someone just because they may become offended. A prison is for punishment. The money should be put to better use to manage the problem not create more in the long run

As i read on wasn't a person elderly sexual asulted by a trands. It's not being tranphobic its safe guiding everyone in a confined space

As a transgender female (pre surgery) (and law abiding) I think it worth flagging that society often misunderstands what "transgender" actually means.

Even within the transgender community there are different opinions.

First up - its not a lifestyle choice nor us it a mental illness.

It is an overwhelming sense that you are female living within a masculine body (or male living in female body).

It is who you are. Yoy have pretty much 2 choices - either be yourself (eat sleep work and play) or deny your true self and try to conform to what society says you should be.

For 40+ years I denied my true self for fear of social familial and peer backlash.

Whilst gender (male and female) and sexuality (whether you like males or females or both) are different issues, there are analogies.

Society (even to this day) often ridicules gay women and gay men but people are more openly gay and society understands that being gay is not a choice.

Transgender face similar struggles in society but society is becoming more understanding.

Turni g tk thd OP, the rral difficulty thd pridon service face is how to best protect its vulnerable population be thsf vulnerabilitg due to age, sdcuslity, gender, mental health, learning disability, physical disability, etc.

I am in transition myself.

Whwthef in a male of femsle prison, I dare say I would be viewed as vulnerable.

But then would that vulnerability be any lessened in a tranagender prison? I do not know. I imagine vulnerabities would still exist.

I may be wrong but I just wonder if building a transgender prison is not so much about the vulnerabilities but more about centralization of transgender support services within HMP? I do not know.

You here more stories about man-female than you do female-man. So I take it has i didn't know about this transgender wing. Why wasn't that transgender female who went to a female prison but didn't she something inappropriate in ended up back in a male prison, actually going in that wing . And is in that case a wing for females to male in a male prison.

Some may say prison is a is a waste of money anyway. I recently watched "Adam ruins everything" on prisons and I was shocked.

So as I am aware there are gender specific prisons, so how would this be any different to a women's prison or men's prison?

Why would it be a bigger waste of money?

I feel it's a way of respecting people's preferences and keeping people safe.

Examples of the worlds gone mad ( and I have hundreds!)

The Stacy Dooley drama

Victoria and David getting slated for kissing their daughter on the lips.

The man on a thread yesterday who got spoken to by management for holding a door open for a woman after she complained to management.

The recent lunacy of asking a baby/child if it’s ok to change their nappy.

No one is allowed to disagree or have their own opinion on anything these days without being branded with being some sort of phobe or perv

"Don’t do a crime and you won’t go to prison

Is it really that simple

Er yes it is

I feel the same way.

The world has gone mad!

It’s gone bonkers mate. Totally bonkers.

Yeah it’s mad isn’t it. With all this over crowding in prisons someone should just let them know about this ‘don’t do a crime and you won’t go to prison’ thing.

All these years they’ve been living in cramped conditions when all the time they could have just done a rota. G wing lads won’t do any crime this year and C wing lads can have next year off and so on.

Hilarious

We were talking about the world in general

Hey once this ‘Dont do crime and you won’t go to prison’ thing catches on, it’ll most likely be rolled out across the globe I can see it now!

I'm unsure of what you're trying to say

I can’t even be bothered to find out. Damn me again for getting involved in a serious conversation on here! Said I wouldn’t do it anymore. If you see me do it again give me a slap would ya

You may like it so no..

I was responding to a “the worlds gone mad” comment and yes it’s bonkers! As I stated earlier in this post i am on the fence with this issue.

Brexit.

I was referring to the comment at the top of the quote “Don’t do crime sand you won’t go to prison” which received agreement.

My point was if you try to solve the problem of where to safely house trans people in prison by simply stating ‘they shouldn’t have done the crime’, it’s not going to get you anywhere. The fact is they ‘have’ committed a crime and history tells us they will continue to commit crime - so the problem of where do we house them remains.

We can’t expect criminals to simply recognise that they shouldn’t do it so we won’t have to figure out where to put them. I thought that was a bit mad myself.
