So I ve only just moved back into a house after living wild in the woods for two years.. No honestly.. So imagine you are now on your own with no cares in the world... Where would you choose as dream home... No kids or partner etc.. Choice is yours.. Narrowboat, mansion, beach hut?

Somewhere near here

For me either in a campervan living where the road takes me or a narrowboat, I have unconventional dreams

I would love a beach front house. Love the power of the sea, feeling it's energy it's ever changing rhythm.

Somewhere In The Ether…

Can I have an isolated and foreboding looking castle? Failing that, a log cabin

Somewhere isolated so I could throw parties whenever I wanted to without disturbing people, yet a 10 minute walk to all the shops I may need.

I'd choose to be in the UK, somewhere by the sea. I'd have a mansion sized house, spread over many intersecting layers and levels.

I'd have a large indoor swimming pool that creeps out of the house and around the garden like a lazy river. A sauna, a luxury spa.

In the centre would be a giant seaworld-esque marine aquarium. each room having a glass panel wall to view.

A firemans pole, toboggan slides, diving boards, ball pits, hidden passages, vents and corridors.

A gaming/tech room.

A beautiful library.

A smoking room.

A large multi-vehicle garage.

And on and on and on..

Everywhere else I'd just stay in hotels. Or rent temporarily. I kind of like the UK.

I have 3 kids, 2 grandkids. Family that need help. Dad's become senile. The list seems endless.

If I stop to really think about it, about what's coming next scares the shit out of me.

I would love to be foot loose and fancy free.

Winter was a worry to my new gf as I really did live in woods with no amenities at all... I had a sleeping bag, a small stove and my off road vehicle to my name.. Made a deal, we move into a house where she knew I was safe and she had somewhere of her own to live as she was also homeless living with relatives

Nice, plans are naff, any I ever had went to crap almost immediately.. Spontaneity, the essence of life, loce and relationship.. We still head off with no plans.. We could come back from work with nothing in mind except tea then two hours later we re heading up M5 for where we know not, stay overnight in van...

Living by the sea, maybe with the beach right on my doorstep, A nice sandy beach (the fucking sand every time the grandkids come over is a bitch!). Doughnut is there and we sit in the summer evening on the veranda with a glass of wine or something, me on his lap with a blanket over us, just cuddling up watching the water and people that are walking their dogs.

Then at weekends have the children and their children over for bbq’s, roast dinners or picnics on the beach.

That would be my kind of bliss.

"I'm actually doing the opposite. I got no kids or commitments so backpacking around Europe for 2 years then the rest of the World... Starting in Norway first week in April.

I would love to do this and then head back to my beach house

What's stopping you?

I have 3 kids, 2 grandkids. Family that need help. Dad's become senile. The list seems endless.

If I stop to really think about it, about what's coming next scares the shit out of me.

I would love to be foot loose and fancy free.

Then again I love the bond of family. Just wish I could get some me time.

Try not to hold on too tight. Grandkids have parents. Let them live their lives. As long as they know you are there if they need you, you can have some life too.

I wish the same for yourself and 1 and all."

I dont know where you live but my suggestion is same as I said to my gf when she was just a troubled friend.. Grab your car keys one day and go for a drive, dont matter where or for how long or how you spend your time.. Just leave children with someone, even for an hour and give yourself some ME time.. She did and it put her on a new road... And I mean this in the kindest heartfelt way... People often find that they become so engrossed in others they forget the most important thing... THEMSELVES x

"Living by the sea, maybe with the beach right on my doorstep, A nice sandy beach (the fucking sand every time the grandkids come over is a bitch!).

Danish x"

...Up on the Downs

"So I ve only just moved back into a house after living wild in the woods for two years.. No honestly.. So imagine you are now on your own with no cares in the world... Where would you choose as dream home... No kids or partner etc.. Choice is yours.. Narrowboat, mansion, beach hut? "

Well, it wouldn't be much of a dream without someone to share it with......but it would be somewhere surrounded by a lot of free draining grassland, with some wild hills I can ride over.

There's a place I used to ride in the Cotswolds, about a 500 acres of untouched upland meadow, surrounded on 3 sides by trees, not a house or a car in earshot, just the song of skylarks. It was my idea of heaven.

Sounds great, I used to ride up over our local moors, nothing but buzzards hunting, standing stones and me and my horse... Best ride ever was on am Andulucian in the Apparhuaras mountains in Spain.. Awesome

I lived on the beach for years, or at least next to it. Waking up each morning to anything from flat calm to wild Atlantic storms away from the world and all its silliness was quite beautiful, would have been more so to share with another. But life gives us what it gives us, unless we decide to stop just accepting life as it is and make conscious efforts to change it to make it what we want it to be.

Now I live up in the hills, equally beautiful, just as remote, but different in every way. Sometimes I miss the roar of the waves yet now I wake to the rustle of trees the sounds of birdsong and the trickle of water dancing over rocky riverbeds.

It's not where we live that matters most, it's how we live and if we are lucky enough who we may share our lives with. The rest, it's just a backdrop to finding our dreams.

I lived my dream for a while on an island, sadly I came back to civilisation and think it was not one of my best life choices

Icelandic cabin right under the Northern lights, limited technology and a local pack of wolves that would be pretty accepting of me lol or a bike and a good pack with unlimited funds to just ride and keep riding

Soooo very true.. Even now I start my day by listening to the surf on the shores of Mounts Bay... If my gf aint up n about when I rise in the morning, whatever time, I m gone, pick up a mocha and take in the love at all around us.. Then I head to my work in the woods... Love your thinking

I’ve lived my dream working away on Greek islands for 14years.

Came back to the Uk 2 years ago and now sat in my work van waiting for some div to chop down a tree.

The job I was in I’m too old for now but if I wasn’t I’ll be back there tomorrow

I've galloped over vine terraces in Valencia, the heather moors in Perthshire, got lost in the Odenwald, ridden a polo pony for hours along the beach in Mexico, and a mustang on an apricot farm in California...I still need to ride across the plains in Montana.
