"Back in the days I would have been angry at the person, but now I would think they may have needful circumstances?" We had up to 50 ducks at any one time, sadly only about a dozen left now.

I hate to say it, but it's mostly eastern Europeans. We have it around here too. They're stealing all the fish out of the ponds, taking swans and ducks, and ravaging the land of anything edible. You see them out with carrier bags picking anything you can eat! This is totally illegal and ultimately bad for the eco system.

Yes much the same as our garden run along the river and we enjoy watching trout, moorhens, egrets and even cormirets. Sadly everything is disappearing and nobody seems to care.

"Disgusting behaviours. My friend is a water bailiff and he is forever having to shoo eastern europeans away from the waters where they try to steal the carp fish." I was reading an article about a man who goes to lakes to educate people from his home country about carp fishing. In their country it's normal to fish for carp and take them home for dinner.

"Disgusting behaviours. My friend is a water bailiff and he is forever having to shoo eastern europeans away from the waters where they try to steal the carp fish." Imagine wanting to eat the fish, eh? Would those be the very same carp that were introduced here in the middle ages as an easy to grow/eat food source? To me it seems utterly odd that people want to catch them and then not bother eating them.

I started a new school and a lad grabbed a duckling put it in a carrier bag span it round and went to smash it on the wall. My first day on the way in. I punched him and kneed him, took the bag, unfortunately I didnt watch him once I'd got the duck and he set my fecking hair on fire. I lasted 3 months there. Hell hole.

"It's not just the east Europeans that cause harm to the wildlife, people in general need educating on these matters. People will let their dogs of the lead and trample through the river crushing eggs and chicks and all in their path. School children through rubbish in everyday including their bikes. People throw whole slices of white bread in the river, probably with good intentions, but ducks won't eat it and it's bad for them plus polluts the river. Very sad to see such ignorance." Sad but true of society today.

Ducks move around by doing this thing called "flying". If they end up on an estate with ponds (gamekeepers tend to leave out feeders with corn in), then they get shot at in season and eaten Populations are kept artificially high by us feeding them so they are a useful resource to harvest.

"As long as he was trying to kill it quickly then fine. The supermarket is full of MEAT or are we only allowed to mass slaughter animals if we pay mega bucks for it ?" Firstly, it's not fine, it's illegal. Secondly, it was still alive when he stuffed it in the bag, so he wasn't trying to kill it quickly. He could easily have broken it's neck, before putting it in the bag.

"Ducks are protected too under same law as above including their eggs. Id be interested how many people have been successfully prosecuted for theft of wild birds in 2018,not just given a caution You'd think that but: https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/watchdog-permits-170000-wild-bird-killings-in-five-years/ar-BBTWk2M It beggers the question will humans not be content until they have destroyed the natural habitat and wildlife of the world." no they won't hopefully not many years left before the planet regains and no humans Left to destroy it

"I’m a vegetarian and see no reason why we need to kill animals to eat them at all . However this guy was clearly getting the duck for food , and probably did it quickly to save himself having to explain what he was doing to irate hypocrites who were disturbed while eating their burgers . Bug fuss about nothing in my opinion . If you aren’t a part of the eating innocent animals then fine , make a noise about his behaviour . If you eat meat , stop being a hypocrite and get on with your life without trying to sound so compassionate . " Well said

Hunting and killing for food is how humans got here, it seems odd to disparage it now. Where do those kids think their crispy duck comes from?

One thing I’m certainly not is dense . Nor do I try and ram my personal feelings towards animal welfare ,( whether that be a duck that may have still been alive in a carrier bag , or the treatment of any any animal slaughtered for our delectation ) , down anyone’s throat . Anyway you carry on with your crusade and if it makes you feel good about yourself to show such vitriol to anyone who doesn’t agree with you , fill your boots .

Just shows what your true character is like sweetie, I'm just passionate on animal welfare and the environment. Also a very compassionate person who cares for fellow humans too. If we don't care as adults and cynical of this type of subject. What hope have we for future generations." Suppose it's a branch off subject yeah. I think we've always been 'selfish' as a society, maybe we used to live like the Native Americans at one point and lived in harmony with the environment but i don't remember it being mentioned in history class ever. And even to this day anyone living a 'hippy' lifestyle is mocked and that kinda says it all to me about how much anyone truly cares. Go on about not eating meat and you'll be mocked for it, as well as have civilized support from other nonmeat eaters, but look at the fuss over greggs vegetarian sausage rolls compared to the fuss made over this weeks revelations about the pig farming industry and how cruel that is and you can see that animal welfare is really low on most peoples priorities. Hope i edited all the spaces into that,my keyboard is shite sorry.

From the RSPB website: Wild birds and their nests are protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 in England, Scotland and Wales, which includes that it is an offence to intentionally (or recklessly in Scotland) kill, injure or take any wild bird, or to take, damage or destroy (or otherwise interfere with in Scotland) its nest, eggs or young. This includes mallards and other wildfowl, but these can also be legally shot during open seasons, subject to certain legal provisions. The open season for mallards is normally from 1 September to 31 January, with an extension which applies below the high water mark of ordinary spring tides on the coast in England, Wales and Scotland until 20 February. Northern Ireland has its own legislation.

"Back in the days I would have been angry at the person, but now I would think they may have needful circumstances? We had up to 50 ducks at any one time, sadly only about a dozen left now. I have a view of a river/canal from where I live so I enjoy seeing geese, ducks and moorhens so I understand your loss. We have barges in the area too which would provide avert that issue. Yes much the same as our garden run along the river and we enjoy watching trout, moorhens, egrets and even cormirets. Sadly everything is disappearing and nobody seems to care." "Back in the days I would have been angry at the person, but now I would think they may have needful circumstances? We had up to 50 ducks at any one time, sadly only about a dozen left now. Sadly everything is disappearing and nobody seems to care. I care Gabrielle.."
