I'm a very average, 53 year old, who's well past his best and don't see this place as a challenge at all.

Have always taken the view that if you make it a challenge and see other guys as competition, that's exactly how it will be for you. However set your expectations, attitude and approach to the site correctly, couple it with a decent profile and pics, and it won't guarantee a thing, but your experience of the site will be markedly different.
