I swear it’s ruining my life. Not the best sleeper in the world but with ring a ding ding constantly in my ear I’m getting no sleep.

Been especially bad the last few nights.

You have my sympathy, I've suffered with it for about 12 years now. For the most part it falls to the background but can very quickly come rushing back. Thankfully it's never prevented me from sleeping though.

It's a shit condition

The only tiny ray of sunshine is that they're now trailing a drug that will greatly reduce the symptoms.

lol, there is actually a cure in labs and its gearing up to go into human trials. It will likely be expensive but trials on animals have returned their hearing to the levels of childrens hearing, which they assume will cure tinitus but wont know till a human can confirm it.

I'd say probably 10 years or so away.

Maybe ask them if they want their tummy to be rubbed, and gauge the response?

Probably won't work on fishies. Or alligators.

Oh that's sad to read. I'm sure more than your grandchildren would miss you.

I have it too and I struggle, especially at night.

Hugs and sympathy to all that have to cope with it.

I'm so lucky I don't have it, despite about a solid 20 year stretch of working in music venues and nightclubs and only really taking heed of the warnings to use ear plugs round about year 17 of that period after a couple of my friends/colleagues ended up with permanent tinnitus. To the point now where if I find myself somewhere loud and I haven't got my plugs with me I make my own out of moistened bog roll lol

One chap I worked with actually had sine wave generators sitting on his ears (they looked more like hearing aids) which emitted a sine wave on the same frequency as the tinnitus but the opposite phase phase, the idea being that it cancelled the tinnitus out in a manner simar to noise-cancelling earphones. He said it was about 70% effective...

I fully sympathise with you. I have exactly the same and recently it seems to have got worse.

It started during my time in the R.A.F. and has never gone away. Caused by working in noisy environments without ear defenders, they weren't standard issue in the time that I served.

Have no idea if this works but check out Dr Mandell on YouTube. He has a ton of remedies for ailments that you can perform on yourself. He has one on Tinitus the link is below.

No idea where your getting the returning levels to child hood.

Theres one possible device in testing for specific types of tinnitus (does yours change if you stick your tongue out/clench your jaw) involving electrical shocks and sounds to reduce the efrects but theres no miracle treatment like youre making out.

Hi all

On youtube there is a white noise video that cancels out the ringing when listening to it for temporary releif. Also for sleep I put on a rain noise video now as the tinnitus temporarily fades away. Worth a search and see which one works for you and hope it helps.

I've got a gearing aide to use to help counteract the noise. Dont like wearing it as you hear every noise.

I just learn to live with it. No such thing as peace n qiuet.

Well lastnight I downloaded an app on iPhone of white noise and put it to a fan sound. I did sleep but kept waking up but it did work, so thank you for suggesting it. Also got some magnesium today which is meant to be good for it.

I tried the rain on the tent noise but preferred the fan.

My left ear is fucked. I get fizzing, popping and the sounds like a fridge motor running.Stress makes it worse.

You can actually train yourself not to listen to it (same way you stop hearing a ticking clock), have a look at the British Tinitus Assoc site.Lots of useful info on there.

Ahhh hugs... It doesn't suit everyone but acupressure may help relieve it.

With your finger and thumb apply firm steady pressure on your earlobe with your finger and thumb for at least a minute, ideally 3 minutes and release. Perform for 10mins. Also the point at the middle of your brow line above your nose again firm steady pressure for ideally 3minutes.

You will need to do this daily to see any results.... It may help

Firstly sorry to hear (genuinely no pun intended) about your suffering! I have it permanently as a result of “slow heavy metal music playing” for years! I also have hearing loss! I do wonder if hearing loss is the reason I can tune out the constant ringing and cope with it? Anyone else who’s hard of hearing with tinnitus find this??

There are many reasons why people get tinnitus, loud music is probably the most popular, mine was stress, I was having a bad anxiety attack that lasted months all due to wotk rated stress,Iv also wondered if deaf people can get tinnitus? Mine seems to be in my head not my ears

Stress makes mine worse also. But as for the sound, ringing, it seems to be in the centre of the head, like where the pips would be in an orange although a symptom of ear damage. I thought it was probably the same with everyone except the tone ?
