After loosing over 4stone in weight , & getting totally fit & healthy with the correct diet and exercise last year ,I was obviously totally gobsmacked when I then suddenly had a massive stroke whilst out shopping in MEADOWHALL on December 3rd for the last minute toiletries for our scheduled 15th Anniversary Caribbean cruise 5 days later!!

It's left me with severe nerve damage to my left leg & so I'm at present awaiting for MRI scans to ascertain where the blockage is...

I know I've been very very fortunate to have recovered so very quickly and come out the other end like this

Just would love any advice "what's so ever" however small

My dad had one last year and was told by his doctor to keep active and that’s what he’s done. He got over it very quickly as in his mind he was like this isn’t going to beat me.

I haven’t but have experience of stroke.

Have you looked at the Stroke.org website? Lots of information on there including finding support in local area as well as online.

Once you’ve had the MRI results you’ll be in a better place to manage the affects and moving forward get the help you need for rehabilitation and prevention.

If you’re struggling memory wise I would recommend you buy a notebook & diary so you can write everything down and it’s easily accessible.

I've not, but the people I know who have. Are all recovering strongly. They keep up with their physio and slow things down to a point they are in charge. Not fretting. I wish you the same speedy recovery

My friend did when she was only 41, it just happened when she was teaching her primary class. It turned out to be the type of pill she was on.

She has made a full recovery. Take it easy OP, x

My mum has had several strokes. She's had physio, speech therapy and regular visits from a stroke nurse. She's made an excellent recovery. The only advice I can give is listen to the professionals and follow their advice

I haven’t but it’s within my field of work so I know the distress it’s probably causing you.

Recovery as far as there is and aftercare is so much better these days

Incidentally, heart attacks and strokes are quite common amongst those who have healthy life styles!

This was over twenty five years ago but my grandad had a massive, massive stroke and left him like a toddler for the rest of his short life, he couldn’t feed, dress himself etc, if was devastating. Thankfully if there is a thankfully in all this, advancement in medicine etc have come along way and I feel if it happened today things might be very different.

I miss him terribly.

22 years ago and for the same reason, took 2 years to fully recover, but medicine has advanced a lot in that time.

He did. Its left him with some severe issues, but he is amazing.

I had a TIA 17 years ago, so nothing as severe as you. I thought I had just slept too heavily on one side. If I hadn't been going for weekly hospital appointments I would never have known. My left pupil is a little blown but that's all I have to contend with.

Keep up with the physio and look after yourself. All the advice is out there, and lots on here already. Good luck.

I should have mentioned in my 1st thread message .. that I went on to have an emergency Carotid Endarterectomy operation on the 27th December .. after my stroke on Monday 3rd December !!

I’ve had 3 more smaller strokes TIA’s since my stroke in December.. & have therefore been through many tests and scans

My full spine MRI .. have all come back with minimal damage

I’m still suffering with peripheral nerve damage in my left leg.. as in I have constant numbness & pins & needles feelings especially in my lower leg & foot .. & still

Suffer with constant chronic post stroke fatigue syndrome .. this is possibly the worse thing

In February last year when I joined a new dentist, at my first appt with my dentist, she said I'd provided good medical history details, but why had I missed telling about my stroke?

I said I'd never had one, but she insisted I had as she'd found changes to my mouth's internal structure that proved I had had a stroke!

She informed my GP; he within 24 hours saw me, found other evidence and within 6 days, a Stroke specialist saw me at my local hospital.

Six months later after lots of tests and going back thru medical records, I was told I'd had a mini-stroke (TIA) between Jan to May in 2015 (when I was taken into hospital twice but nothing found then!).

There's no damage at all to all major organs except I've a slightly narrowed Aortic Valve, which is checked annually with a 20 minute Echocardiogram.

Regional stroke team so pleased at dentist's vigilance.

I (m) had a mini stroke a few months ago. I had it diagnosed as my vision in one eye was going blurred and blind.

I’d apparently had it within a month of being diagnosed. Quite shocking at 35 years old.

Mr KC had a brain haemorrhage (which is classed as a stroke) 12yrs ago with only 20% chance of survival - we were told he had won the lottery surviving without side effects but sadly that hasn't been the case

Periodic bouts of depression and he has now developed a neurological based dystonia all due to 12yrs ago

But his positive outlook on life, humour and his fabulous wife keep him going

Challenge what you are told if it doesn't seem right or you need more information

Don't be scared to ask for 2nd opinions

Ask for everything in writing & make sure you're signed up to the new NHS app to get access to your GP records

Be kind to yourself - everyday will be different and not every day will easier than the last. Love the life you have and surround yourself with people you love & love you back

My mum had a stroke at the end of august. She’s recovering really well the Hallamshire were amazing with her. I think it’s always best to take small steps with recovery especially from a stroke. My mums getting physiotherapy and also having some counselling as she’s experiencing a lot of anxiety now. Just take any support you can really. Xx

Take life comfortably, ensuring that you get lots of rest. Be gentle with yourself, as pressure isn't potentially going to be helpful. You may be more fatigued frequently, which will impair your potential for engaging in many things you may want to do. Associate with supportive people who will want to understand and help your life be more tolerable and satisfying.

A great time to take each day and moment as it comes. As long as you have some things that are good for you, you will be guiding your recovery. Exercise can help with physical strength, mood and potential recovery. If people don't understand you enough, potentially find out others who have been in similar situations. You may also benefit from grieving the you that you were, if you're aware of major loss. Take all the time that you need to accept yourself and be yourself.

It's pretty crap ... but you're still here to enjoy it!!

Think positive, set a target ,even if it's only a little one , and enjoy life ..mine turned out to be jumping into a pool to swim with dolphins, wondering if I still had the bit of my brain that knew how to swim

Sorry to ask but have you had the jab? I ask as there have been many suffering strokes after having the jab and seems to be linked to the S1 spike protein. Dr Judy Mikovits might be a good place to start and she has her own website. I wish you well.

I'm not entirely sure that trying not to be is how to avoid depression...

While you're about it, try not to have a stroke eh?

OP, my ex SiL had a stroke, turned out she had a cluster of weak blood vessels in her brain (can't remember the medical name) and it was just a matter of time before it happened. She made a full recovery after a short period of loss of some use in her hand and slight slurring of speech.

I hope you recover well.

If you've had a stroke (my old mum had one twenty years ago) they can be life changing depending on severity,other folk they affect less so.

I forget the stats by age group think at the time of my mums they were the 4th biggest killer in the uk.

Hope its not a stroke and you make a full and speedy recovery from whatever it is.

My mum had a right sided MCA Infact (clot) stroke in august. It’s left her with fatigue, mental cognitive issues, sensory overload, reduced sensation in her left leg and arm, poor vision.

However that being said she’s made an incredible recovery and is doing so well.

I’ve not suffered but I know a few people who have. From what I know the worst thing that you can do is let it get you down and the best is to celebrate every victory no matter how small.

How are you doing now? Sorry to hear you went through that. I'm still here, i've been admitted, only took 10 hours to get a bed

the staff are rushed off their feet. More tests tomorrow.
