Hmm i have had this argument at work.

If you dig a hole and take a recorded measurement of the metric volumn. Then fill in half of that volumn. You technically then have half a hole as the recorded volumn of the hole is now less.

You have now changed the profile of said hole from a whole hole to a depression.

Of course some would argue that if it is at night and you cannot see the hole, it therefore no longer exists.. i suggest they try walking in the area of the hole in the dark and when they fall and break their ankle, that is evidence enough that said hole always exists.
