Being modified should not affect the road worthiness of a vehicle. All cars are made differently and to different specs, the mot test doesn’t get tailored for a specific model. If your car is safe and road worthy it will pass, wherever you take it to be tested

Harnesses and cage but no belts

Fixed Kevlar buckets

Tyre outside of arch (more tyre more grip)

I think the test criteria and what is permissable afterwards, changed in the last year or so. It's worthwhile researching the current test criteria as well as what can happen if a vehicle fails - as the vehicle must typically not be driven away from the test centre, even if it had an outstanding period of time remaining on the current MOT certificate. I'm not involved with that industry and know little about cars, other than how to drive.

Sounds like you want to pass an MOT testers illegal car?"

Even messing with the suspension or ride heights can result in failure. If you have an accident, then your insurance is rendered invalid.

Bmw been kitted out for track use but still a daily driver. Oversized tyres . Hydraulic handbrake . Decated exhaust and a few other tweaks all alterations have been made aware to insurers by the way . Just seems to upset every test station going so i feel i may need to grease some palms. Also owner of a diesel that someone has unfortunatly removed a dpf filter from how dare they lol . Happy to pay a finders fee. And distance not necsarilly an issue if someone knows a discreet and friendly tester .

Greasing palms won't help you as all results come from vosa. I would suggest getting a cheap run a round for tiad use.

If it's tyres and cats I'd get a spare set just for the mot once its done take them off and your a bit to far for my friendly mot testers and depending on what year the car is now there's different tests like new cars need rev lights working rev wiper to now comes in to it now that's how a mot place makes there money Yer a mot for £20 great it will fail on something silly a £60 mot most of the time pass

crash tested aftermarket seats and harnsess are road legal though

I had a car crash 3 years ago that brought on problems with my right side from a old injury from 96 I nearly smashed my shoulder on my mountain bike and then last year I had a accident in work on my right shoulder again so lost about 80% of my power to undo and lift stuff so a simple job takes all day because I do a bit and got to stop from pain and I'm getting to old for laying on my back in the cold but sometimes needs must I don't have a spare grand to do a clutch on my car people look at me and say your fine I wish I was Im hurting from head to toe ha ha

It's no laughing matter, especially if it's in your blood, believe you me! I was gutted when I had to stop picking up and even using the simplest of tools to do an engine rebuild

However if you change the car after the mot, you can still be stopped by the police for an unroadworthy vehicle.

Secondly if you are involved in an accident, your insurance could refuse to pay out.

Owner of a heavily modified 4x4, all mods declared to insurance and no problem with the mot...

Mot testers are checked regularly, the test results are fed into the system and accessible to Vosa, too many passes will issue a visit, the Mot tester could get fined thousands for it if they are caught passing unroadworthy cars.

If the tyres are still in the arches and have 1.6mm of tread over 3/4 of the tyre that should be ok, people often fit different size tyres and wheels to cars, hand brake shouldn't be a problem either just as long as it will hold the car, the decat might be an issue with the emmisions tho....why not just bolt a cat back on for the mot?? I know a few who do that.

Take it to the council.

You may find they MOT their own vehicles. If so, by law, they have to offer that to us (not for free of course) but they don't offer a repair service.

Thus it's completely unbiased.

Well I like to modify cars in my spare time and never had a problem getting a genuine mot as long as it has a Vic check and dvla are informed of changes for example I have a Peugeot 306 with a porsche engine and obviously lots of other modifications and a focus St with a mustang engine so your mot is no different to any other garage unless it's dodgy

Take it to an MOT station for a pre MOT check so you can see what it will fail on if it was put through an actual MOT. Depending on age may fail without cat, tires outside are a fail, hydraulic only handbrake the same. Mine has fixed buckets, harness and cage and those were OK. MOT rules change all the time and without knowing the car in detail it is the only way to find out the list of changes required for sure.

Heavily modified cars can pass mot’s you have to leave on the cat and as of January 2018 last year a new rule came in that the dpf must be on the car.

Basically if it’s got legal requirements on it as on long as you got a cat even a high flow motorsport one is fine.

Harnesses don’t matter as such because a few high end cars have those as standard on the road.

A good mot station can consult you with your car to keep it roadworthy whilst you modify it.

Certain mods can cause the car to become unroadworthy.

Like you can only have openings on the bonnet and the front of the car a certain size or a grille or mesh has to go over it for pedestrian safety.

If your wheels stick out of the arches then you need wheel arch extensions or if you have the money extend the arches outward.

There’s thousands of regulations on the car in the uk try searching for an mot station that deals with modified cars more on a regular basis that’s what one of my friends did with his heavily modified S15 Silvia.

Other mot stations don’t want to spent the extra time going through the thousands of regs to see if your car still conforms.

If your thinking of bribing them most would just refuse because they don’t want to risk getting caught or making a bad name for themselves.

Never mind the mot. It depends on what mods that's been done. You are supposed to inform dvla of any major change that affects your car details in the registration document.

Because if you make major changes and then you are involved in an accident you do know your car insurance becomes null and void
