Or it could be to do with the fact that the middle ear is connected to the nasopharynx by the Eustachian tube. A sudden change in pressure causes irritation to the back of the throat, in other words you're poking too hard.

Oh...and I twist the corner of a baby wipe to clean them. Never a cue tip/cotton bud. My friend accidentally pushed too far in and has damaged her ear drum and now has tinnitus

Btw...my doc asked me to cough whilst inserting my new coil. What's that about?

I thought that I was the only one. Bright sunlight does this to me as well as cold air from air conditioners and super markets.
