Hi all.

Going to Amsterdam tomorrow for two days. I'm going because I love Vincent van Gogh but is there anything else I should definitely do whilst I'm there? Anything I should avoid? Any advice gratefully received. Xx

Book tickets for the van gogh museum in advance otherwise you can end up queuing for hours. It's an amazing museum that reduced me to tears.

I'd say avoid the red light district on a night, it's the worst of humanity on so many levels.

The wine and cheese canal boat trips are slightly above mundane. There's also the Anne Frank museum, but long queues.

"Go to the sex museum "

There's one on Damrak and one on Ouderachsburgswal (sp?). The second one is better.

Try the Rijksmuseum and take a look at The Night Watch. By far the best Rembrandt and painting I have ever seen in my life. Spectacular.

York

Sex museum, Anne Frank's house, Hard Rock cafe for amazing burgers! Walk around the red light district during the day, as others have said it's dodgy as hell on a night, I've been to the Van Gogh museum but there is also the Rijksmuseum if art is your thing. The zoo is meant to be good as well, I ran out of time to go last time I was there though. Also avoid Vondelpark at night, some very dodgy people hang around there after dark and it's known for muggings.

The tram is a good way to get around but be very wary of pickpockets. Other than that enjoy!

I love Amsterdam! The Anne Frank House is incredible, the bodyworks exhibition fascinating. Van Gogh museum is huge!

The best hot chocolate in the world is the the La Grotte cafe on Haarlemmerstraat. Enjoy your stay!
