Taking a compliment

Has being on FAB made taking a compliment harder for you ?

I have found that because people on here are very free with compliments in the hope of getting a bit, when someone gives one i find it hard to accept as i consider what the ulterior motive is and how many times they have cut an pasted it that day

Even worse i find when they go on about pics i have posted i have to ensure they know i have thrown loads away before keeping the best out of a bad bunch.

Oddly, I think it's made me better at it.

Not, in general. I've become pretty cynical with the messages. But I've been able to see real compliments from those who've come to know me.

I'm also able to accept what seem like genuine compliments... and detach from "I said a nice thing now you have to meet me" sort of crap. I guess I'm better at not thinking I owe anyone things.

On here I take compliments with a mahooosive pinch of salt

Otherwise I take compliments well, you can tell a lot by the delivery if its genuine or not.

I’m much better at accepting compliments now. And it’s given me to confidence to encourage others in Vanilla life to accept compliments too. Over all as much as Fab can depress you, I think it lifts you up more?! I’m a much better person now than I was before Fab. New found confidence (having a wonderful man by my side helps too!) x

I try to accept compliments with a thankyou on here but tend to be very self deprecating with them. I'm awful at accepting them in real life too. Better now than I used to be though x

Even genuine compliments make me think well you haven't seen that bit i'm squeezing in or my hairs only actually nice because i gave up after 8 million you tube videos an paid for it to be curled.

I think i should at least accept genuine compliments at face value and thank someone instead of telling them why i'm not pretty or something

I think it's rude to the person giving the compliment if you don't just accept it. After all it's their perception/ opinion and by giving a negative response it's like saying "Your opinion is shit". That's my take on it anyway.

Yes. Yes you should.

On fab, I occasionally accept compliments, you can sort of tell when people are BSing. Being on fab has made me more aware of both the disingenuous and the sincere but it hasn't made it harder for me to accept one. Even if I can't see something, I know the person who is giving it does/can.

I still don't know what to say, I generally make a sarky comment back.

I think I take most compliments on here with a pinch of salt, it's weird, I enjoy showing off my body but the compliments still feel weird. It has made me appreciate real compliments about me as a person though.

Exactly and though i thank them it's after listing a few ways i'm not

i think it's more the urge to make sure they are aware of reality because people have this idea of who you are especially on here from pics , but once make ups off, my hairs like a bust mastress in morn an the heels have stopped making my stumpy legs look long i am aware they should at least think well she did tell me

But 100% agree with you an i shall consciously at least reduce my why not list

I used to hate getting compliments. I chose to learn how to accept a compliment graciously after somebody told me that refusing a compliment invalidates the givers' opinion and is pretty rude. I'd never thought about it in those terms previously.

They’re nice, especially when commenting on my pictures, but prefer them in real life when dressed. A bunch of girls on a hen party, kept going on about how convincing I was, a couple of years ago, so that had me on cloud nine for awhile

I'm not thinking everyone is after something , it's more the fact that after already finding compliments hard to take . On here you get lots of people complimenting for the sake of it i suppose .

Genuine compliments are nice and don't stop . sorry to give you a sad face x

Neither easier or harder really. From real friends, no different. On fab it just goes right over my head.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

It depends what it's about, how it's presented and, sometimes, who it comes from.

I spent several years in therapy being challenged to accept compliments. I used to be described as Teflon coated to repel all compliments.

I've just received one from someone who used to work for me. I am happy to accept it but did couldn't resist the urge to remind the sender that it was their hard work that led to their success (it was). I hope it is seen as taking the compliment and paying one back.

I take things at face value. I’m as complimentary outside of Fab as I am on it. I prefer people to feel good about themselves so try to focus on positives. It’s good to spread a bit of love

If I compliment someone on either their profile or pictures, I can assure you it is genuine. I am not one to give compliments to try to meet you.

very commendable and how it should be

so moving the thread on a bit, what if someone compliments your profile or pics , after thanking them is it the done thing to find something to compliment them on even if you don't fancy them or just take the compliment, thank them an then slowly fade of into the internet
