That you can kind of get the jist of someones personality on the forums, just by their posts and comments,or is it just me?

Hmm food for thought

I think with honest people it's quite revealing if they post often enough. Always worth remembering there are a lot of deceptive people who like to give off a certain impression; when the reality couldn't be further from the truth. All for sex

Definitely Dash! There are a lot of you that come across like great people, funny and friendly. My local forums don't seem to have just as much craic, I only wish there wasn't a bit body of water between Belfast and mainland UK because a social with some of you would be awesome

I sometimes wonder about some of the really nasty people who put snidey comments on or who only come to life on here when they are digging someone out, what they must be like in real life. Especially if they mention they have kids. What sort of parents must they be? What are they like with their friends? Totally different you would hope

It's why I take part in the forum, to show my personality in a way the profile can't and all to get to know people I might want to contact. Plus, I've learned a lot and had some great laughs. Great to be part of it

"I dont think you can, people probably form an impression of someone which may or may not be correct and run with that."

Yep. I think that a particular post or incident can stick with someone and if it's a negative view of that person, they'll only notice the negative posts in a confirmation bias way. You only get a particular snapshot of a poster at a particular time that you then try to make 3D; it's not always the full thing.

I didn't mean you girls are in any way worse than the girls from the mainland, just that the forum threads seem to be more my scene in the lounge which is frequented mostly by those from the mainland.

Over time you can start to see the cracks in those personalities who weren’t being quite their trues selves, even if they come back like yo-yo to reinvent themselves.

Not saying that’s true of everyone because I have met people off the forum both in a good and not so good way who were different to their online persona.

Not really, you lose so in communication via text only without tone, body language or facial expression.

That reminds me I must get to grips with using emoji's as my intent is sometimes misunderstood. I think that's why they were invented.

Over time you can see people’s inherent unhappiness with their situations.

Seeing someone over the years desperate to find love on here is quite saddening.

On the flip side you can see the optimists and life’s happy people. (Probably it may only be a persona though)

Yep, i did meet someone who was very different than they came across on here and not in a good way.

But then the flip side to that iv met someone simply because I liked what they posted on the forums and they have now become exceptionally special to me.

That's just marketing though. Most people on here wants to come across as decent (usually). Unfortunately there will be the odd few who knowingly misrepresent who they are (ie. tell whopping great lies) in order to attract people.

I’d take it with a pinch of salt. I’m nothing like my internet self. And neither are most of my friends (not on the forums, but the things they write on social media).

I disagree. Ironicly I am still slow on the uptake myself when it comes to emoji's I see their function. I think they can be very useful in a world full of text. For example a dry sense of humour does not come across well in text. Language and communication is always evolving to it's time and environment.
