"Ring back in five minutes you may get somebody with a brain cell"

took me forever to dial a number that got me through to an actual person,, seams like every number i rang was an automated service that i needed to enter in my account number..

if you have bt internet, you'll find it there - I had similar issues with them, and when I found the number, I left for sky instead.

Just ring in the pretence of buying another service from them you'll soon get talking to a real person, then go from there saves all the automated crap

THe problem with these supposedly 'helpful' help lines is that they are absolutely fucking useless and that's being kind to them. Press 1 for this, 2 for that, hold while we transfer you, now from the following options...

FUCK THAT SHIT!!

I've worked it out, and here's how you sideswipe all that nonsense.

DON'T FOOKIN PRESS ANYTHING...and eventually someone comes on the line and says, "Hello, how may I help you."

What a simple concept.

Muppet here added it to the pile of 'stuff to be shredded'.. lesson learnt.

I went to set up my billing online and couldn't complete the process without my account number. I dialed up to find out what it was and was told they can't give it out for security reasons and i would receive it on my next bill.

a tip here for you all ... i may even put it on a thread... there is a website called "say no to 0870) google it and enter the company you want to speak to. it gives alternative numbers to call, some of which are direct to some peoples desk with no automated answering.

You can request that BT send your customer number to you in the post, all you need to do is answer their security questions.

The land of grey peas and bacon

Don't get me started with BT they tried to take back £93 which they had given to me in a refund. Then added it on to my next bill.. I wanted to punch someone in the head at that stage...

If I had all your security details and they told me your customer number over the phone, you'd be pissed huh

They send ot to your home address as another security measure.

Funny how call centres and their adherence to DPA are the bad ones

They can't win, cock suckers for sticking to the law and utter vintage when they don't and you end up the victim of fraud

Stop paying your bill, then you will get a nice letter with your customer number on, problem solved AND you won't have to speak to any nasty customer centre people

.

Security measures are there for a reason.

Personally I would rather wait a few more days to have the number sent out by post than having information given out over the phone

Customer verification is a pain but 20 years in contact centres, I have yet to speak to a customer who is prepared to waive the process providing they carry the accountability for the potential fraud loss.
