Have you ever bought an item of furniture then found it's too bloody big to fit into your house?

I had to wrestle with a table this afternoon, and luckily I eventually managed to squeeze it in through the doorway (pardon!), but only just.

Phew!

Anyone else had a similar dilemma?

Easier to buy a flat screen TV then build the house around it.

Not exactly furniture. We got shower board. It took a couple of hours to get it up the stairs and in the bathroom. Wallpaper got ripped. Ceilings got dented. Paintwork scratched. Bent the board as much as we dared. We contemplated taking out a window at one point. But it's in and it's great.

We got an American fridge freezer and not only did we have to take the doors of to the rooms to eat it through and in we had to dismantle the fridge too. Both doors off to that! Oops. So it’s in now and staying lol we’ll have to turn it into a cupboard if it ever packs up! Lol

Corner sofa unit for my daughter’s chill out room- because it’s in the annex it’s awkward to get into, and leads off a very narrow galley kitchen- had to move the freezer to get it in. So looking forward to moving soon and having to get it out! Haha x

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest

I'm.amazed this doesn't happen more often as divisions in the Uk (bedrooms, living rooms) tend to be a bit smaller. When in doubt, break out the measuring tape

Yes, when we moved to the house we’re in now we had a very large sofa and the entrance hall is small and has a mantle in the middle, so we couldn’t get the sofa in. We had to live with it on the stairs until a few days later my dad came over and we took the window out and passed it through that. Now If I have any new furniture I have to think of getting it in before I buy x

Ive had staircases dismantled to get a sofa in a room before now and we did live in a tiny cottage with a twisty staircase that couldnt get anything up it. Very minimalist living there

I pretty much did this. Built all the studwork, fitted tv bracket then boarded the wall so the tv was flush to the wall and there were no cables to be seen anywhere.. I just had to get sound insulation board for the wall as it turned the space behind the tv into a speaker..

Yep did exactly the same with a long sofa a few years back. My back lounge is pretty big but there's an awkward turn to get into it so there was no way this sofa would fit. Then it got wedged in the hall. Argh! Eventually managed to manoeuvre it into the (much smaller)front lounge where it looked ridiculous.

Grrr.

Yes, out American fridge freezer couldn’t get through the front or back doors. Had to take all the doors off both the house and the appliance. Utter nightmare!

Oh yeah ... Big leather sofa ... Wouldn't fit through door... Get it through and my dad drops the bloody thing that weighs a load onto my toes ... Wasn't wearing boots or shoes... Darn toe nail on big toe comes off. ....

Remember safety is number one priority.

Got some second hand living room furniture for my mum when she moved over here, so tight I cut my hand getting it through the front door. She moved out a few weeks back but the sofa is still there- she'd arranged council collection but as they changed the doors since she moved in, couldn't get it out again!!! Frame of the Pvc doors is wider so there's no chance. She's informed them that removal is now officially their problem
