My mum used to say, dont chase after boys, it makes you look sad and desperate, if there interested they will come after you. Put more clothes on or you will get rheumatism.

crying for nowt, mam would say "come over here and I'll give you summat to bloody well cry about" usually followed by a clip round the lughole

full of cold and coughing and I'd hear "cough it up, it might be a row of houses"

Wearing short skirts or teen fashions or anything revealing - "that'll be nice when it's finished"

and finally....

Whenever I was going out, "Keep yer hand on yer ha'penny" - never quite worked that one out, but managed not to fall pregnant at all so guessing it could have meant be careful

My nan used to say....if you carry on sitting on that cold step you will have piles when your older.

I would be getting ready to go out of the house for an evening on the tiles with friends. She would shout, "time to be going to bed never mind going out"

I was sitting on a bus behind a mother and her young son. Her boy kept looking around and pulling funny faces at me.

After a few minutes, I tired of his antics, so I said, "When I was young, my mother told me that if I made an ugly face and the wind changed, I'd stay that way." The little shit replied, "Well, you can't say you weren't fucking warned."
