I found it a bit "buzzy" ended up a 2 hour drive with tingling fingers. As a 6' 1" bloke it was also a bit tight in the foot well. Take one for a longish test drive taking in motorway, A and B roads to see what you think. Handles well though.

Drinks petrol.

Garages see RX8 owners, assume owner has more money than sense and double the labour time...

not had one myself but I've heard bad things about the reliability of the engine and fuel consumption is very poor too

They're a bit thirsty, but you need to run them, not good for short journeys and with rotary's its good to red line them regularly to prevent carbon build up. Not a help for the fuel economy.

My mate had one, loved it, but found it a bit thirsty.

Very reliable engine, very poor fuel consumption, incredible to drive, ridiculously sensitive clutch....in short a car you will love and hate all at the same time.

Test drove one and didn't really get on with it, felt a bit too cramped for me but the driving experience was fantastic and is definitely worth considering but as an earlier post said, take it for a decent test drive and don't buy the first one you see as loads around.

In the end I decided on a Porsche 911 (996) as stupidly cheap at the moment, £18k buys a minter and can get 28mpg; not bad for a 3.6!

Or a T20 TED Runs with at least 33% kerosene mixed in with the petrol and mine`s a mere 60 years old!

i have test driven one and felt it was a little unresponsive and it is a little cramped for a bigger guy, much prefere the feel and drive of a FD RX7

I had an RX7 for a few years. Hell of an engine. Rotaries are so smooth. Bit heavy on fuel but so nice to drive.

think they also fall into the highest category of road tax at £460 a year

i looked at them a couple of years back and seem to remember it was that + the fuel consumption reviews that put me off

Just got rid of the Scirocco. Now that is a nice motor. Plenty of room too suprisingly for it's class.

A lovely ride and great on fuel. It was only the 2.0 TDi 143 Bhp/Ps

Got a new Golf now. Sounds lovely on the door closing action.

i used to get called out to a few a week as i worked for a recovery place .. u right they crap on fuel high on car tax they was classed as a 1.3 but due to them havin duel tips they reclassed them to 2.6 and on short drives alot used to flood themselfs and make it hard to re start and engines cost a fortune when they go bang............. ................. as one peson on hear said he though about one and got a subaru we both drive subaru's hers pritty much standard bugeye 52 plate ... and mine a very much modified spending over 15k plus the price of the car and shows most cars up of 70k plus up on drives............ subaru's all the way for us and will vever think of anything else now we no boy races just like nice cars and the little boy races love it when pam a lady in her late 40's gets out of it and the lads go nice car love

"was your scirocco just like a golf?"

You may not know that Audi,Skoda,Vw and Seat use the same engines ? So it must be to an extent. The cabin is far more luxurious though, funky dash and infotainment blaa blaa. Nice wrap round seats and loads of headroom. I,m 6'2.

It handles better than the Golf and i'd say slightly better on economy.

It looked loads better having debadged it on the rear. I wanted white, got black. The Golf is white though but not a sporty model. Still a lovely motor. Time to get a new one soon. March.

Its a lemon thats why they are relatively cheep. High tax, fuel bills, servicing, always need oil topping up make it expensive to run. There are better alternatives like the Honda S2000 Nissan 350Z or if you have the money a Nissan Skyline.

Make a big cup of coffee then sit down and google RX8 problems. they are plagued with them and would take a very brave person to buy a used model without a bomb proof warranty. Which is a shame as when they are running they a a decent car. Had an RX7 turbo a good few years ago. It used to hate driving past petrol stations!! got rid as soon as it started playing up on cold starts. If you want a good car stick with the Germans.
