How old were you when you knew what job you wanted to do when you grow up? ....Or do you still not know?

Did you do jobs you hated before you realised what you love, or did you always stay within the type of field you've ended up working in?

Never seriously thought of the job that I'm going to do until I'm 14.

Being a typical oriental, my professional future are influenced/decided by my parents. My responsibility was just to excel in my exams.

Not really my dream job and almost quit in 1999, but I'm still doing it until now. Will opt for an early retirement in 2021 though.

I always wanted to be a Nurse.

Never set out to do my current occupation, work with children and really couldn't bear them until I had my own.

25 years on and my job is my passion, however when young colleagues ask me which are my favourite children I always reply with none, dislike them all equally

When I was a child I wanted to be a vet but bein needle phobic for as long as I. An tenner that was never an option

Now I want to be a pshyic medium but it’s proving harder than I thought

From the age of around 8 i knew i wanted to work outdoors, originally as a forest ranger. At 15 i got into agriculture and for the last 20 years i've been in horticulture.

I've done jobs that i've hated in between these just to get by - i've never been on the dole. That makes me appreciate what i'm doing now all the more in respect of quality of life if not in pay packet.

I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up.

I fell into my current role totally by accident, yet I love it. And I'm pretty good at it, I think anyway. Certainly lots of people keep telling me I am.

I now know that I should have been an historian. I never, ever knew what I wanted to do and just drifted into a career.

Fortunately history is something that you can enjoy without working in the field

For as long as I could remember I wanted to be a nanny, for my work experience I did two weeks in a nursery and that was enough for me.

When I left school I trained as a housekeeper in hotels and then got married and went from job to job, I toyed with the idea of being a midwife but didn’t get the grades at school.

I was an activities coordinator in a care home for a while and I loved that job and a carer too but for my own mental health I had to step back from that as I found working with people living with dementia everyday upsetting long term, I adored being able to enhance their lives but mentally I wasn’t strong enough at all times.

I’m back in hotels now, it’s mine and ads dream to run a B and B sometime, so we are getting managerial experience now, we both work side by side, it’s great, I get to spend all day with my husband and it doesn’t feel like work most of the time.

Before we can here at the end of last year though I did three weeks in a bakery and it broke my heart to leave as I really loved that job but this is my dream.

I haven't grown up yet ... It's a trap

Seriously though, from age 5 until 31 I wanted to go in the RAF but due to things outside of my control it never happened despite passing entrance exam and most health checks

Not directly, but leaving them at Nursery, and not being with them for several hours of the day kind of got me thinking. Offered to volunteer, before being offered training,then a job. Then when my boys left for school I continued.

Now two degrees and a passion for early years education with attachment theory and transitions being my speciality here I am.

I was around four, I wanted to be a nurse. When I was older I couldn’t decide between teaching and nursing, but my nanna died in my final year of my English Degree, and she always wanted me to be a nurse, so I swapped my plans and became a nurse instead. I can always fall back on my English and change careers, so it’s all good xx

Having had family driving coaches all their lives I decided I wanted to do it too. I get to meet new people travel all over the UK and Europe and get paid to do it. 20 years on I still love the job

Possibly one of my regrets, I fell into my line of work and because it was fine and worked for me I stayed.

I don’t really have any idea of my “dream job” but I’d like to think there is still time an opportunity for me to re-train in another field of employment.

Trained to be a car mechanic left college did two yrs got bored left done a few jobs after but been driving now for 26 yrs to lazy as only a mile to work but might be moving soon so my chance to move on

Somewhat...my dad told me what job he wanted me to do. In our family, our parents are like the King and Queen, we will try our best to fulfill what they want.

He passed away when I was in 1st year Uni, and my mom did offered me to quit, but because I was doing well, I just carried on.

I didn't regret it though.

I currently don't get paid to work but I've started a volunteer role. I absolutely love it.

Its based at home and I do part of the new digital archive database into its new format.

If only it was a paid role.

I had several ideas and dreams and have explored and managed to get hybridisation, so that I can enjoy lots of variety. I'm a student again and loving it.

Never have found what I want to do.

Think I may give up and just go into semi retirement in the next few years.

I wanted to be a firefighter.. but only when i was 16 did i find out that i was too short, had a buggered eye and a history of asthma....scuppered that plan so never knew what i wanted to do afterwards..i just know that what i'm doing now isn't it !

I knew what I wanted to be from the age of 6. I worked bloody hard to become that, 4 years of university. 9-10 years into the job and seeing dramatic changes, I decided to go for a career change, a job that I considered almost 7 years ago to the day. And here I am, 2 year of university on my second degree.

Just identify as a woman, they'll lower the entry standards for you.
