Hefty Hideaway

Ah I still have one with my old nickname on from my teenage years. One of those godawful gold Elizabeth Duke specials. I wore it everyday for about years.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I had one my grandmother had made for me.

I wore it every day. School even allowed me to wear it, as long as it was under my blouse. The one day I didn't wear it, in the '80s, we were burgled and it was gone forever.

Coincidentally, after it went I was attacked, had strange things start to happen and my libido went into overdrive.

I still miss it as it was my literal link to my Granny.

I had a scroll writing one and some one bought my daughter one that I wouldn't let her wear. I thought she might trust a stranger if they knew her name.

I had one and my name isn't common. I also wore high cut neckline, small diamond earrings and Chanel No 5.

She had used her own gold, melted and remade into that necklace, and before it was trendy. She hadn't done anything like that for any of the other granddaughters, which created a funny status for me in our matriarchal wider family. She was an extraordinary woman, born at a time and in a culture that could have left her broken and bowed. Instead she was always positive, generous and willing to take on a challenge. Although, sometimes controlling and manipulative.

Ditto, but without the No. 5 as I don't wear perfume.

"I have a very common name, so it just looks common on me. "

My mates wear Hugo Boss t shirts with Hugo Boss plastered all over them , its so common but they do it religiously .

I think if you wear a name necklace discreetly its fine and if your on holiday .

That's the sort of thing a mum would say haha

These days I probably wouldn't wear my necklace, if I still had it. I don't want people knowing my name in the age of easy searches.

Apologies, monopolising your thread, OP. You just reminded me about Granny. Thank you for that.

I get it.

I've had things where I've wanted to keep them close to my heart as a momento like that. I wear them on a very long chain so they can't be seen.
