A possibly vapid question....

Somewhere In The Ether…

Please forgive what may be a bit of a vacuous question but I’ve always been a tad befuddled by the intricacies of family relationship titles.

Someone told me of the following scenario which has caused a fairly hefty brain fart in my head....

If a person has a child, who then in turn has a child and the original person subsequently has another child late in life; What is the relationship between the newest child and the other child (the first grand child)? Is the newest child an uncle.....but younger than the nephew?!

The right place

I used to be a teacher and I had a class which had an uncle and niece in the same class. The niece was actually older than her uncle by a couple of months.

Bedworth

After my grandfather married his much younger second wife they had 2 sons. My half uncles are much younger than I am, when they were children I used to babysit them!

To save confusion I do sometimes refer to them as cousins as it saves a long explanation to strangers.

I was at school with a lad who had an uncle the same age at a different school. We used to play him in the school football league.

Here’s another one - what is a cousin twice removed?

"Here’s another one - what is a cousin twice removed? "

“Once-removed” is a generation.

So my cousin twice removed is my grandmother’s cousin.

Easy
