Do you think this generation know more or less information than previous ones?

I google everything. Anything that catches my attention, so far today I've googled an actor and the origin of a name but I was just thinking has our ability to have any information at our fingertips made us lazy? Do we retain less information because we just don't need to?

People are dimmed down now, can’t think for themselves! Is like a zoo vie brainwashed society these days in my opinion

My 9 yo is an absolute fountain of knowledge, when I ask where she learnt it it is always Youtube. Amazing what they can actually soak up when it takes their interest.

Information is more readily available, however it takes a certain mentality to seek it out and use it, a large percentage of the younger generation don't seem motivated enough to improve themselves or care enough about others to come out of the self entitled little world they seem to live in, so dumbed down or just can't be bothered, I'm not sure.

I think it depends what information your searching for. i would never want to sound like a snob but if someone is constantly looking at random trivia and it's forgotten soon after then it's probably not very constructive. Saying that I do tend to go on YouTube and look at treadmill accidents so who am I to judge. I do have a bad memory though and can never remember people's names so I find having it searchable online quite handy. We do live in that age now where everything is easily accessible.

That's the thing, retaining information just isn't as important because you can always check.

My dad would be awesome in a pub quiz, he knows enough about a range of things to make an educated guess whereas my 13 year old niece didn't even know who Winston Churchill was.

It's quite scary really.

I would say people evolve more information is available and people lern and retain more general information these days. On the flip side people have less skills than they had in the past. Few repair or make clothes we have so much convenience foods and we don't repair or make as many things as you can but new cheaply. I wouldn't say that's a bad thnig we are just different to parents and grandparents.

I would say that while the internet is working we are a much more educated society than ever before .

But if and when it breaks , we will realise that we are actually the least educated we’ve ever been .

Let’s just hope that never happens .

The stuff my son is capable of and what he knows is a different order to what I can do. My knowledge comes from the years of experience reflection and the books I’ve read in the main. His is coming from such a wide range of sources and growth of facilities to support development that he is more self-directed in his learning than I ever was at his age. What the younger generation are capable of Is mind boggling if they have the focus to do so.

My 6 year old knows it all. For instance. Did I know that there were 7 dogs on the titanic but only 2 survived. She'd have saved the dogs (she did try telling me that no one died on the titanic the other day though).

Today’s kids are smarter and more knowledgeable than any before.

Won’t do them much good though as their social skills are almost nonexistent and very few are street smart.

Getting run over and fatal crashes because you can’t put your phone down for more than 30 seconds is gonna be this generations cancer.

I am impressed with the breadth of knowledge the younger generation have but I do think the depth of knowledge is lacking as it is easy to find an answer to a specific problem but harder to see where it derived from. Basic maths and english are good examples but also sciences. There is always the risk people will lose the ability to solve problems for themselves when answers are given at the press of a button. I don't think that's lazy, it is just the way society is moving.

Every generation has said this about the younger one. It's a bit of a self-righteous twunt opinion to me.

More information is a good thing. The issue now is making sure people know how to identify reliable sources - especially online!

Wisdom comes through experience. We don’t know if there’ll be more or less wisdom until they have had the experiences and learned from them.

My son is wise beyond his years from a relatively early age demonstrated far more wisdom at times than me

I've got three - 'Hear all', 'See all' and 'Say nowt' - the first two are daughters and both wise for their years. The last one my son is lovely but hopeless, bless him.
