I can’t remember who it was, but someone mentioned a sort of speed dating for fab socials.

I thought it was an interesting idea, and honestly, I think it could work. Would you do it?

See, I get overwhelmed at large, organised socials. There’s too many people to talk to! However, in that format, I think everyone would benefit from some new people to connect with.

If it was a speed dating fab social for singles then yes very much so but locate of the event would be a factor.

Ah, that’s one thing to consider: how would it work with couples?

You would have to decide if its a singles event or not....

Yes totally.. large groups are a little overwhelming and it's hard sometimes when others already know each other. Plus doesn't help when you've not seen most of their faces...

Of course. It would be a flop if it was an event for couples *and* singles!

Exactly! I’ve only been to one organised social and felt totally intimidated as a young, bi woman XD

I was terrified and loitered around the edges with a few that I'd spoken to before but didn't really speak to many!

Do you think that being at a speed-dating type event would help, or make it worse?

I remember us discussing this few years back.

We also find ourselves a bit like wallflowers at busy events, but something like this would push us into things

It'd be easier as you'd get to say hello to everyone without weird introductions wondering who they were.. it'd be a great icebreaker.

That happened to me one time. Guy wouldn't stop talking and leave my table, the event organiser had to step in and asked him to get up and see another lady guy who was waiting to see me was laughing his head off lol

I did it at the MLS last year. I can usually manage a couple of minutes conversation before their eyes glaze over and I have to move on to my next victim.

Maybe that's because we don't have many organised social events in the South West like they do up North.

No. But at the end of the event he came back to my table, shook my hand and said it's been really great to meet me. And I was glad it was over

I think xtasia did it once at a swingles event. It would be cool if there was something at a social where when you heard a gong you had to move to another set of people but maybe only the first couple of hours

We’d definitely be game. C has been wanting to try a vanilla one for ages just to see what they’re like, and I’ve been to a few in the past. With the right atmosphere it could be a lot of fun.... with lots of interesting possibilities at the end!
