Once you're dead obviously, where would you like to see it go or be used for?

My dad is doing this when he dies and because there won't be anything worth transplanting he'll be used by students for anatomy/dissection practice.

I'm led to believe that we'll get his remains back for burial/cremation about 18 months after death.

Going from the crash test dummy thread. I would be happy to used for that.

I have this worry about being buried alive. So being shot into a wall at 80 mph would make doubly sure.

I was thinking that's a pretty cool use too.

I've signed up for this but one isn't guaranteed that they will take you when the time comes however, it all depends upon how many they have/need at the time for they cannot take everyone.

I really don't care what happens to my body.

I have told my boys I do not want a funeral, the thought of my boys having to go through that process horrifies me. Just send me to the furnace alone, no service, no mourners. No relatives who never bothered with me in life, no false sentiments or people turning up to make sure I'm dead.

My boys can remember me how they like, and mark it however they like, but they ain't being put through that rigmarole.

If they can come up with a way of making mine hard and magnificent then they can have mine.

If they can only display it while flaccid they are not having my winky.

They can have mine but I don't think they'd get far with it. I like the idea of making a difference, changing someone's life for the better even from behind the grave. I wouldn't hesitate to have a transplant.

Do you not think that makes it worse for them

Theres no collective mourning to normalise, it no closure or chance to say good bye. It just one day mum is gone and the rest of the family and community is gossiping behind thier back about how disgraceful it is they couldn't even be bothered to hold a furneral

I don't think that's the case at all. Close friends and family will know the reason behind it and as for the rest, why should anyone care what they think?

Nope certainly not the case, I did say my boys can mark it in exactly the way they want too without the rigmarole.

And believe me, my boys won't care what others think, because the people who matter will know my reasons. No one elses business tbf.

Why should things be done just to please others, because it's a societal expectation.

All I know is I've lost too many people, Mum and my Dad included to know that I do not want my kids to sit in a cold crematorium thinking of me looking at a box, it won't be me in the box anyway, just my shell.

They are in control, their way.

I'm already down to donate as much as can be harvested. I am considering whether it would be better to donate the whole cadaver to a medical school for young doctors to practice on.

I think funerals serve a purpose. Every society has some farewell service or ritual. If you have made it clear that you don't want one it won't be their choice, control or their way as they will always have some conflict about going against your wishes if they choose to have a funeral.

Funerals are for the living not the dead.

Somewhere near here

I didn’t realise that they hand the body back. I like the idea of donating my body. I want to be an organ donor, but to medical science, maybe. I don’t want to be pumped full of chemicals, I would like a natural burial which I believe I won’t have if I’m full of stuff

Donating your body after death is such a great thing to do. Organ donation if possible, even tissue donation (they can use bones, ligaments, skin etc).

If you want to help medical students learn then leaving body to medical education is so helpful. The bodies are treated respectfully, and although it is fully dissected over a year, they keep all your parts together and then the family can choose what happens next. Some uni will pay for the cremation for you and everything. Oh and each year there is a memorial service where relatives can meet the medical students and they can pay their respects to the families that have waited 2 years to cremate their loved one.

It is such an essential part of training doctors!

Stoke area

I am donating my body to medical science once I have died. I cannot donate my organs as I have a long standing medical condition that prevents this.

My family will have a large photo of me to display in a local hall. They will have instructions to have a big party to reminisce how awesome I was and maybe a book to write funny memories, that my kids can read in the future.
