Apparently, facing budgetary pressures, car safety researchers in Spain are using dead bodies instead of crash test dummies.

I'm assuming i will be one day. As i understand it it's one of the things that can happen if you donate your body to science.

It is.

Motor manufacturers typically use dummies and computer models but nothing beats a decent (especially if young*) cadaver for research use.

There was a paper published in 1995 that calculated that ~60 lives are saved for every cadaver used in research.

*Most cadaveric donations are from old people and this type of research requires non-injured bodies with intact vascucular and respiratory systems.
