Marmite Warning!

And no - this is not one of those 'love it/hate it' threads...

I always buy marmite in the squeezy plastic jars and this morning went to make us marmite toast for brekkie. As the jar was low I thought I'd pop it in the microwave to make the marmite more runny....BIG mistake - 20 secs later marmite jar swollen up like a puffa fish so I opened the door and KABOOM! Marmite explosion all over me!!!! Jar is now rock solid hard plastic - no squeezing will that do ever again......

Warning to use common sense not to microwave plastic containers without checking whether it is ok to do so first?

Yeah right!

I have done something similar with honey. Luckily, I only did it for a few seconds to see if it works first. It did not and started to melt. Good job too, hot honey on skin would be very painful!

In my d*unken uni days I put a Pot Noodle in the microwave, no water, foil lid still on.

One big bang, several fire trucks, and one evacuated halls later, and I'd sobered up!

My cousin started at the same uni last year, and said the tale was relayed during her induction to halls about what not to do when d*unk!!!

Next time cut a hole in the bottle. It probably just needed to vent as heated air expands and if trapped has sufficient force to stretch many materials as you found out.

In addition to the hole put the microwave on a low setting so that the contents warm through rather than overheating and burning.

Better still. The night before you can slice the bottom of the jar off so you can get to the marmite easily in the morning.

Best option is don't do it at all.

Even better option,, buy it in a regular jar lol ( Hope your not too burned btw OP)
