"Very sad, tragic in fact ... but Darwin first suggested it and Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park said it best "Nature finds a way" The DWP corrected a problem .. no one could have predicted that this was going to happen could they? Why does there have to be blame? Rather than just a tragic chain of events"

"The DWP pays over £10,000 in back dated benefits to a young man with mental health issues. Shortly afterwards he's found dead from a drug overdose. He was living alone under the supervision of the local council. The young man's father blames the DWP for making the payment (which the young man wanted kept a secret from his father) and the local council. The state is often criticised for nannying the population yet when it's really necessary the state fails. So, do you agree that the state is to blame, do you think this could have been avoided and if so how, or do you think it's just another sad event?" No idea if it could have been avoided, I don't know anything about the young man or what his issues were. Why is his father blaming the state rather than anything or anyone else for example himself? It's entirely possible that there is no blame to be attached to anyone or any thing apart for the guys illness. It is sad and I hope his father finds peace

"Some people are unable to manage their own finances, regardless of whether they have mental health issues. Basic finance management should be taught from primary school age. Universal credit is going to give money straight to some people who will see it as kerching! A big lump of ready cash, rather than this is for rent , this is for bills etc etc. " This 1000000% I used to give financial advice on budgeting and money management skills to benefit claimants and charities. For some it's like giving a five year old a giant bag of sweets and telling them to only eat one, handing an alcoholic a bottle of vodka and saying only take a sip a day or leaving a pile of cash on a shopaholic's bed but saying you can't spend it til the end of the month. Whether it's temptation or just irresponsibility - some people can't be trusted to prioritise a roof over their head, food on the table or heating, over gadgets, booze, drugs or gambling.
