Ralf Northam. a Virginian Governor, a name no one this side of the Atlantic has probably heard of before is being taken to task in the USA for blacking himself up to imitate Michael Jackson at a private party 35 years ago.

They want him to resign, but has he done anything wrong? Has he offended anyone?

It's fashionable to be offended now ...doesn't matter how many years ago you have to dig it up from

The Jackson family maybe? They are unique to say the least!

Just so I understand, what you're saying is, this governor blacked himself up to look like Michael Jackson, during the same period of time that Michael Jackson started whiting himself up?

I haven't read the story but from what you say it does sound daft.

Should have seen my Uni photos there were a group of people dressed up as the former gb triple jumper Philips idowu.

I refuse to comment on the op situation because i don't know the context.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

It is a bit odd, but last I read, nobody was sure whether it was him in blackface, or the kkK outfit alongside.

Two incidents, from what I read---one of him with a blackened face, with a KKK costumed man beside him. He later admitted he'd dressed up as Michael Jackson later that same year.

If you don't understand the terror the KKK struck in American society, you'll have no idea why this is a big deal, not "just a few kids dressing up."

That's entirely different. I'll go and look at the full story.
