"Talking on the telephone has it's issues: You give someone your number so they intrude into your life whenever they want to. Apps allow you to log off. Talking on the phone is more intimate than say relatively anonymous messages on an app. You have to make time for someone to enjoy a call. Phone calls are either related to work or for family and friends, not strangers off t'interweb. In my opinion obviously. " And numbers appear on bills...

"I find it really odd. There a lots of people who are uncomfortable actually chatting to someone on the other end of a phone?" I hate phone calls and usually do all I can to avoid them. I can glean plenty from long messages and failing that would rather chat in person

"No, I don't like it. Face to face is the only way for me. Facial expressions tell so much about a person, body language too. I'm with you on that front. " I think it comes from years of phone communication in my work. Before email it was common for me to talk to people from all over GB and the wider world for ages before actually meeting them. The difference between the phone persona and the reality was often staggering.

People used to wait ages on hold by the time they got through to me they were already 9 out 10 times the used to be vial and hard to deal with. I've hated answering phones since then. I do speak on the phone when I have too and I put people on speaker phone where I can.
