only us at home now, both work, only a cpl of years left on the mortgage. looking for a car, but must stress it would be parked at home at least 5 days a week, so would only get used at w/ends, is it worth getting a newish or just keep hold of the cash and keep the car we have until its run into the ground

Why not hire one each weekend you could have whatever took your fancy that particular week. No maintenance, tax, insurance etc.

If you only use it at weekend keep the current one until it conks out.

Keep ya money and spend it on a cruise (Not in the Mediterranean).

Look at the running costs on the one you have versus costs on a newer one.

Road tax, maintenance, insurance may be cheaper, but then of course if you have to take credit this has to be factored in.

Why not put the money away that you would have to pay for a new/er one, run your current car into the ground then see what you can get for cash with what you have saved

have you got a garage ? I wouldnt buy owt decent if its gonna stand outside all week. If theres just two of you, get a 2 seater toy, like an SLK.
