First movie you purchased?

Hi everyone. Came across some old VHS tapes in my loft the other day and got me thinking. Does anyone remember the first film they bought to a watch at home? (could be a mainstream or a porno haha)

Pretty certain mine was the first Mission Impossible (up to that point my parents had always got them). Chucked a lot out but couldn't part with the first one I ever bought myself.

I honestly can't remember - know we had a Phillips 2000 system (that had the advantage of double side tapes like audio cassettes but the disadvantage of barely anyone making pre-recorded films for it) when I grew up, so only came to VHS much later was probably something like 48 Hours or Beverly Hills Cop.

I do remember a friend buying Trading Places and paying nearly £30 for it which was the going rate at the time and a small fortune by today's standards.

I'd had a VHS machine for years but never considered buying films, until I got my first Dolby Prologic setup.

In the early days of surround sound, there was very little broadcast content, so I was looking for a film with good fx.

Had previously watched Lion King on a friend's mono telly and though "meh" but noticed it had good reviews for surround fx, so I bought it. Enjoyed it a lot more, with decent 5.1 speakers.

That was the first of about 300 - now relegated to the garage, because none of my VCRs work, any more.

I've probably got about the same (and a lot of them now owned on DVD too) trouble is charity shops don't want them and I'm reluctant to just consign them to the tip

Jurassic Park was the first I bought myself. I saw it at the cinema when it was released but back then the wait for stuff to come to video afterwards was years!

Would have been multiple Disney films. Think the first vhs tape I bought myself was a new kids on the block live concert.

Some great titles here. Future generations just clicking on a link to stream something will never know that excitement of putting a video in, watching the trailers, and of course rewinding it back at the end!

The first video tape I bought was a 5-pack of Scotch E-180s or E-240s. I recorded loads of films and TV over them and used them again and again. When one stop taping well or jammed... you could send it back to Scotch and they'd send you a new one (free) as a replacement. It was a great service.

The first VHS machine I had was a rental one from (the legendary) "Glens, Roberstons, Hutchison and Stepek" in Partick, Glasgow. It was at the arse-end of the 1980s. There was a newsagent nearby in Scotstoun/ Whiteinch that would rent you out "proper" pornos. Those were the days.
