So ... I'm sitting here in the Docs surgery.

I hate docs and haven't been in just under a year, but I like to sit and watch the people as I sit here waiting (and listening to the receptionists playing Hitler )

Which brings me to my question ... When were YOU last in the Doctors?

It just makes me chuckle how they try to demand that the person they are dealing with tell them exactly what's wrong in a public reception area

To be fair it's not the receptionists choice. They need to know as a minor form of triage, how long to make each appointment.

With that said some are bitches and I'm sure take great pleasure in actually being nosey.

Nothing exciting.

Our receptionists are very good now.

Layman’s terms ..lol...tethered spinal cord between L3-L4 (lower back pain) procedure tonrelease trapped cord is relatively straight forward, but from that point below, I’ve geown up with it “under tension” ..like letting go of an elastic band ..according to the surgeon “the first three things to go” would be control of bowels, bladder and then erexrile dysfunction. When asked about the odds (was expecting 1-10,000, 1-100,000 ) was told it was one 1 in 4....

I’ll live with it.......

Shit happens lol ...think sciatica crosses with wisdom tooth ache. Most the time it’s just a dull ache, but there’s the odd day it’s ...”bad” .

After a flirtatious 6 months being addicted to the relief opioids gave me, I decided on a new course of action which revolves around me cracking on, biting my lip and saying “fuck it” more times than I really should ..plus side, 20 years from now I’ll probabky qualify for a mobility car..every cloud and all that

When asked about the odds (was expecting 1-10,000, 1-100,000 ) was told it was one 1 in 4....

I’ll live with it.......

Is it too personal to tell why? x lol not at all. I had neck & head muscle spasms. The pain was excruciating I was put on zapain amitryptilene & diazepam. Nearly 3 weeks in agony but all's good now

Totally empathise there ... I have suffered with my neck for the last 30 years

Not nice is it. I suffer with severe backache too but when it was my head I have to admit I was thinking the worse. We all do it don't we lol. X"

The ‘hitler receptionists’ have to ask you now as dictated by the NHS. It’s called care navigation to try stop unnecessary stuff going to the GP (eg. Stuff you could see the nurse for) and clogging up appointments

And they will reserve the right not to allow you to see a GP.

It is, as previously stated on here, an NHS directive and they are obliged to ask.

With so many people going to see a GP unnecessarily or expecting a private medical service for free it has had to be tightened up.

Receptionists are the 'guard dogs' employed by the partners in the surgeries much as any other receptionists are in any other businesses.

If you are unwell to the point that you need a GP then it would make sense to follow the protocol you are being asked to adhere to.

If you would prefer not to state your reason for attending the surgery in an open/public situation then by politely asking the receptionist if you can answer that question in private then they will usually oblige and talk to You in a side room.

Those who use and abuse both GP surgeries and the NHS in general are usually the ones who need it least. Those who genuinely need it are empathetic to those providing the service and by remaining understanding receive the treatment that they expect.

Remember if you are arsey then when you next really need an appointment those receptionists will recall who you are and will probably not be as helpful as you may wish.

Who said anything about being arsey? It was just not wanting to tell receptionists your personal, intimate issues.

Personally, I have never been arsey to a docs receptionist

I doubt that very much.

Now ok I don't see the docs often but our receptionist has never asked why we need to see the doctor, the only time they would ask is if it was an appointment with a nurse so they could get the right nurse.

If they did refuse I am happy to go to a Walk in centre instead.

I don't have to divulge my health issues to anyone but the doctor.I can be polite while saying those words to a non medical person.

It is a tad worrying that you say a receptionist may decide to be unprofessional the next time I wanted an appointment, maybe she shouldn't in that job at all

Consider human nature...

It is what may happen in any event where those who cannot or will not do as is the protocol.

Of course it would not be an official process or a professional one but that is how human nature works, I'm sure you understand that!

"There are two kinds of receptionist nice ones and bitches

It just makes me chuckle how they try to demand that the person they are dealing with tell them exactly what's wrong in a public reception area lol like they have a Doctorate but are keeping it on the down low

To be fair it's not the receptionists choice. They need to know as a minor form of triage, how long to make each appointment.

With that said some are bitches and I'm sure take great pleasure in actually being nosey. "

"God, this all sounds horrendous. Call me a posh git if you like, but I fork out for private health cover - the doctor comes to me.

That's all very well if you can afford it...

It's not really that expensive if you shop around."

Pay through the nose to see the same Dr's us mere mortals see

The IV antibiotics were good but being in hospital wasnt a good thing.

"

It is a tad worrying that you say a receptionist may decide to be unprofessional the next time I wanted an appointment, maybe she shouldn't in that job at all

100% agree with this

Consider human nature...

It is what may happen in any event where those who cannot or will not do as is the protocol.

Of course it would not be an official process or a professional one but that is how human nature works, I'm sure you understand that!

Errrr, no actually. In my job (not as a doctor's receptionist) I am professional at all times because I'm a mature grown up when I'm at work!

I can separate work and immaturity

Of course you can. If or when you choose, that's always assuming that you are a human being. Are you really, as a 'mature grown up' trying to say that you do not think that human nature comes into play and gives bias toward a decision?

If that is so, then i would suggest that you may have matured but you have yet to grow up!

I don't behave like a twat.

I'm more grown up than you by the sounds of it to suggest unprofessionalism is acceptable because of "human nature" "

Life....

As a patient 16 months ago when my mum died and I got signed off of work. Can honestly say I can't remember even registering that their were other people in the surgery at that time I was so numb.

Prior to that about 2 years before when I tore ligaments in my ankle after a falling out my friends back door at her fab social Halloween party

No, id had the required amount of IV antibiotics. Iv also had the required amount of oral antibiotics.

The problem might never get better due to the disease that caused it. I will keep needing IV antibiotics over time so will keep needing to be admitted to hospital.

"Last September to review my BP medication

That's not bad then "

Pretty much the only time I needed to go in recent years, except for the yearly health check.

harrow

Well more men than women have played with my cock and balls in last 2 weeks....

I have two men play with my balls and one fingered my bum this week....as well as nurse jabbing me with a needle, and two urine samples

Joys of having tests at my GP, and urologist!!!!! ( nothing to worry about)...I must say the nurse was a bit hot

Luckily old me, though the private hospital (urologist) was ran by a little dictator. The gp’s was ok but a bit miserable.

"So ... I'm sitting here in the Docs surgery.

I hate docs and haven't been in just under a year, but I like to sit and watch the people as I sit here waiting (and listening to the receptionists playing Hitler )

Which brings me to my question ... When were YOU last in the Doctors? "

Autumn last year...

Menopause chat, he couldn't help me...

Was good to talk though!

Luton

June 2016, with back muscle problems.

I suspect I'll turn out to be one of those people who never needs any hospital treatment until everything goes wrong in old age.

Canterbury

I went to see doctor before Xmas and he sent me to hospital with suspected serious chest infection and possible sepsis, been to docs every week or so since to have blood tests, results and to find out that I had glandular fever which has affected my liver. About 6 weeks or so to get over glandular fever and a possible 6 months for my liver to recover. Find out later today how I'm doing as I had yet more blood tests to check my liver and to make sure the glandular fever is shifting
