Do bitten nails put you off someone (especially if they are dirty)... or does it not bother you at all?

I've always bitten my nails but currently I'm sporting the longest nails of my life...... on 1 hand and I've got to say I'm rocking it or at least I am as long as this cast is on my arm and I can't reach to bloody bite them.

I posed this question because I ripped one of my nails off (painfully) and someone asked me why did I bite just one nail as it looked horrible

Leeds + Newcastle

There's definitely a difference between bitten but ok and those gnarled, gnawed on stumps of nails.

Like how do you even bite then to be THAT short

Worthing

Apart from bad breath, this is one physical attribute that would put me off anyone.

I don't care about bitten nails but dirty nails would seriously put me off.

I bit my nails all my life. Ugly habit. And such a PITA to pick up dropped coins.

Then last Summer, after splitting from my wife, I met up with my first ever girlfriend again after decades. She’s in a relationship but it was a fun meeting.

Anyway, in my car, she reached down and touched my hand and said, disappointedly ‘oh Stu, you still bite your nails’.

At that moment I stopped biting them forever.

Just takes the right motivation to change any bad habit.

Hiding in the shadows

I bit my nails from the day I had teeth, til I was 19.

I used to bite them so far they bled & I always had sores and infections.

My mum tried everything to make me stop, nothing worked, then one I just did.

My nails now are ridiculous, they grow really quickly & are so strong I can't even file or cut them myself.

I have to get them done with the electric grinder they use on acrylics at the nail bar

I need to get them done soon they're currently just over 1½" long and starting to get in the way at work!

Same but every 2 weeks. Mine would never last that long and I have the gel! My own nails but gel.

As a kid I used to bite mine. Just one day kind of stopped.

I still do when really nervous though. Don't even realise that I am.

I bit my nails badly as a child. Fortunately my mother caught me at an age when I believed every word she said. She said if I kept biting them, the bulging skin left at my finger tips, would grow over my nails, and hospital would have to cut the skin off.

Horrified at the thought, I stopped overnight

I only dislike them if they're rough/jagged and dirty. Unless I ask to have delicate areas shredded then badly kept nails are a big no.
