Are you a dunker? If so which is your favourite biscuit? I love to dunk either a chocolate digestive or a ginger nut.

One of my favourite subjects!

Best dunkers imo are Rich, Tea, Ginger nuts, Malted Milk, Choc Digestives, Bourbon and Custard Creams.

In any order.....

Shortbread, though you've got to be careful as they soak up a lot of tea quickly and are very crumbly. Definitely not for the novice dunker. What can I say...I guess I'm just a crazy guy who likes to live life on the edge.

Anything that has a good solid consistency to it and preferably not chocolate coated (unless a digestive) - can't be too thin otherwise you risk soggy drop into the tea. Also needs a degree of soakability.

Digestives, shortbread and Hobknobs are all good examples of decent dunkers

Pink wafers, garribaldis (see scalability above) and Jaffa cakes (yes I know they're officially a cake by they're biscuit size and therefore potential dunkers) are all examples of non-dunkers.

I've possibly thought about this too much

Oh and Rich Tea are for the skilled dunker only - dunk for the right length of time, and they are a delight, leave it a millisecond too long and you're destined for Rich Tea sludge at the bottom of the cup!!

I believe they're continued but I've the recipe for

Abbey Crunch Biscuits

Ingredients:

140g Butter

140g Caster Sugar

140g Self raising flour

112g Rolled oats

15 ml Milk

10 ml Golden Syrup

1tsp Baking Soda

Method:

Cream butter and sugar

Mix in milk, soda and syrup

Stir in flour and oats and mix well

Roll into about 24 small balls and put on greased baking tray

Cook for 25 mins on 150C/300F/Gas Mark 2 until golden brown in colour.

Allow to cool on the baking tray for a few minutes and then transfer to a cooling rack until fully cooled and hardened.

For those dunkers on a budget, try the Essential Waitrose rich highland shortie biscuits. At just 60p for a massive packet, they make a perfect skint-January dunking treat. For a flavour per pence ratio, there's not a better value biscuit out there!
