"I think attention seeking is sort of an umbrella term for a myriad of behaviours. Certain "positive" displays are encouraged and looked favourably upon, "negative" less so. So yes, we're all here for attention but how that word is interpreted and how attention is sought can be the difference between a good and a bad reaction. " What would you consider to be negative?

It's like the difference between false self-depreciation and seeking the attention of white knights, and uploading a photo you think is sexy for everyone to enjoy. Sharing is caring, and while it is attention seeking that's not always bad thing ![]()

"One of my least favourite responses on a thread is "oo a look at me post" erm what's wrong with that?" I've probably done that! I think that sometimes it's a very British response, in that we're expected to be understated and reserved in our looking for attention, flagrant and ostentatious attention seeking is very vulgar isn't it?

I think I know what you mean, I think that some people use negative comments or derogatory posts to draw attention, in those cases negative attention and enforcement continue the cycle. Not that I'm aware of, I don't agree with attention at any costs and I'd rather elicit positive responses.

" Is it? Don't draw attention to yourself, be modest in your behaviour and project low confidence or people won't like you is the message I see put forward. If you do people will tell you you're marvellous, gorgeous and talented until you start to believe it. Then they'll proceed to knock you down again. Crazy.

" Yes, that'd be the sort of behaviour I was thinking about. We are all courting attention in different ways (even by me posting smarmy, far too long posts I am) but when it negatively impacts or involved others I think it's a bit shitty.

I'd say that both seek attention of one sort or another but one is treated more kindly.

I agree with you Meli (apart from the smarmy bit). There’s also a level of need with some people and when the two go and in hand it can be an uncomfortable read.

"I often see the act of attention seeking as being derided and put down but isn't that why we're all here? Personally I love a bit of attention, after all if we didn't want attention then there would be no pictures and no one would meet. Thoughts? " Aren't most of us exhibitionists to some degree or another?

The attention so to speak is a two way thing. Attention seeking is a one way street.

The people that aim to make others inferior are frequently the people pandering to the attention seeker.

I'm simply asking; isnt the very act of posting, having pictures and an account drawing attention to some degree?

"Antisocial" How so? I notice that you have pictures up, a profile available to view, aren't you seeking attention from others. It could be argued that by posting negative comments you're drawing more attention to yourself...

"I dont want attention as regards meets hence my profile. But i wouldnt like itgif everyone ignored everything i said althoug they do mostly ![]() You want your words to be noticed. Still a form of exhibitionism is some people. Others just need to vent off to a rangers. Some personalities are bigger than others. I don't think it makes us all narcissists. Though some of us clearly are ![]()
