Do you let fear rule you or do you push through? How do you react when you're afraid of a situation?

There's a fine line between bravery and stupidity. I'm stupid.

Is that because your avatar picture was taken at the local garden centre?

There are times that trepidation has prevented me dling what I want or think I shpuld do... Having said that, if I say I will do something then I'll make it happen even if I am shitting breeze blocks at the prospect.

Depends what the situation is...

I wouldn't have a go at bungee jumping for instance but if i had a fear of meeting new people I might push myself to enter a room that was full of strangers

I used to be fearful of a lot of things but I’ve grown up and now I just take the bull by the horns and push through.

Why worry about something and get scared, it might not happen and you will have worried for no reason and if it does happen worry then

Depends on what I'm fearing.

Snakes for example scare the shit out of me. Even the glimpse of one on TV or in a book can freak me out. I think that is one of my largest fears so top end of fear spectrum.

Generally though if something seems worth doing (and needs to be done) regardless of fear I'll try not to let it stop me.

True, as the saying goes; why worry? If you can do something then do, if you can't then accept it...

Obviously I'm paraphrasing but you get the idea.

Although fear is different from worry

Personally I feel a fear will always be a fear and that situation will no doubt appear time and time again in your life . Until of course you step up to the plate and conquer the fear and take control of the situation

If it was anything to do with spiders then no, I can’t and won’t push on through. I’m terrified of the little buggars.

Some things I have to manage somehow because I just won’t give in to it otherwise it would stop me doing things.

I'm afraid of failure and letting people I care about down, sometimes to the point I sacrifice my own happiness to do so.

There and to the left a bit

Some things I fear and either put off doing or don't do at all (even when I really should) sometimes out of sheer petrification at the thought of doing it, sometimes because I fear the consequences, even though in the long run I know it may benefit me to do it.

Other things I confront head on and just get on with them even though the thought scares me rigid.

So I'm firmly in the "it depends" camp.

To answer my own question; I think that there are various different forms of fear but they break down to the natural and the learned.

Natural fear is stuff like spiders and snakes, things that are hardwired into our brains and are meant to keep us safe from harm and death.

The learnt fears are things like fear of rejection, failure, emotional pain etc. I think it's the latter fears that I push through and in some ways attack.

Ultimately though I think that fear tells us that something is risky, and I think that without risk we wouldn't grow or challenge ourselves.

I have always been afraid of fear.

Until someone very special told me this~

Lord, Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

So I use fear to power through now, and generally don't suffer, obviously if my kids or D was in danger then that would be a different story altogether.

Near Marlborough

I am terrified of flying. Proper scared. Can’t talk, can’t eat, can’t sleep, can’t watch a movie. I just stare and hope and drink gin. Hate it. Holding panic attacks at arms length for hours is exhausting. And I can’t hold them back at all if it gets bumpy.

I have also travelled a fair bit of the world for both business and pleasure.

I don’t let it stop me going.

Brighton - even Hove!

I’m not afraid of much. I’m wary of quite a bit. Try and analyse if I have time otherwise....
