Just weighed myself for the first time in a loooong time.

I didn't even think someone of my size could even get that heavy.

Dead soon.

Lesson to you kids, don't let chronic depression go unchecked!

Yeah i've been over 200 for about 6 years. Scales most likely aren't wrong.

Good camera angles I suppose. I havent been 15 since I was like 20. I didn't know I could even get so big at my size really.

Nah sertraline never helped, neither did citalopram. My depression obviously isn't chemical.

I went from under 8 stone to 17 stone in a year when I got treatment for my depression and panic attacks.

I was told, as the psychiatrist handed me the prescription, that I will put on weight, but I didn't think it would more than double.

That was 19 years ago nearly; I'm still fat but I'm still here

Nada. Doctors never got back to me on it this time around sadly.

Beyond the shadows.

You could drop down to 13 stone healthy in a year. By simple tweeks and a bit of exercise. Apparently exercise's good for depression too (but I'm no medical expert)

I have been varying degrees of fat since I turned 13. I could never stretch or run well like the other lads at football and that and my body just never worked well for some reason.

I hate living my life this way and not being able to change it much. Being fat is not good and I want to tell everyone.

I don't even remember when I was last 13 stone. I don't even think I could physically be 13 stone, I come from short, squat genetic stock. Big people.

But okay 13 stone will be my goal by the end of the year. Could maybe enjoy the last years of my 20s.

Not necessarily. I have a friend who is about 8 to 10 inches taller than me and weighs less than me.

Medication on its own doesn’t cure depression, that’s the big problem with mental health services the NHS provides.

Try joining a gym and/or some kind of sport, maybe boxing.

Exercise has a cathartic effect on your mental health, as well as the obvious physical aspects of your health.

It pumps your body with adrenaline and serotonin, gets you out of the house and hopefully socialising with people.

Change your diet and eat more “brain food”

Gym never did anything for me. It just left me frustrated and self loathing. I hated being there and stopped. I've tried the gym a good few times the past 5 years and it just doesn't work for me.

I will just try walking again.

My mother suffered with depression (still does but it seems to be less severe now she's older) and although I still have no proper understanding of it one thing I do know is that as much as a depressed person would love to join a gym or get out for a brisk walk to help with serontonin levels the nature of the illness means they are unable to.

Theres a whole new generation of meds out these days designed for people who SSRI didnt work for.

Might be worth looking into they also prevent noradrenaline reuptake too so less of the weight gain side effects.

Bur remeber medication isnt a cure its a tool to help you cure yourself

Walking is my way of keeping as fit as possible and losing weight.

I can't use gym equipment or swim long and hard enough for it to be of any use for fat burning.

I walk around an hour a day, non stop.

I tried explaining this to someone and why I couldn't mow my lawn or cut my hedges any more.

I walk because I have to pick someone up from school. I force myself to do it.

A good set of headphones and Spotify playlist will help you, forget about the people in the gym, everyone is there for their own reason.

The ripped guy pumping iron in the far right corner may very well have been you 12 months ago.

It does really matter if you join a gym or not, it’s the exercise that matters so as long as you’re getting that it’s good. The gym just has a way of becoming a motivation as it becomes comfortable.

It’s just like a new pair of shoes, uncomfortable as fuck when you buy them but after you break them in their a perfect fit.

Yeah Gym can be boring, If go but do something like boot camps or other class's you might find it more enjoyable rather than hitting the treadmill for example. Maybe take up a martial art like Capoeira or Kickboxing ,basically any group based activity.

Maybe try a different gym OP.

I have always been on the larger side and never enjoyed any type of exercise.

Add into this a back injury before the age of 20 meant I was in pretty bad shape. For most of my 20's and early 30's I was registered disabled and used sticks to walk.

I decided one day I'd had enough and wanted to try and get better. I just started off by walking to the next bus stop along. It was hard work and very painful but got easier over a few weeks. Then I decided I would try to go to the next one (and so on).

After about 3 months a friend persuaded me to come to the gym with him. This gym is a bit spit and sawdust, full of weightlifters and boxers with virtually no women. I was amazed by how helpful everyone was. Showing me how to train safely and how to work all the equipment. Nobody stared like I imagined they would or made me feel uncomfortable.

It took me about a year to go from almost 22 stone down to 15 and I took part in a charity boxing match and won!

I regained almost full mobility and haven't needed any walking aids. Although I still have back pain I just push through it and stay as mobile as I can because I know if I don't I will just seize up again.

I am hoping the OP is ok, it's always a bit worrying reading a thread like this.

Hopefully, by admitting it "publicly" on the forum it will have helped them to face it, a kind of catharsis, if you will, and realise that they can do something about it, it doesn't have to be drastic.

Really good supportive comments from all the posters btw- this is one of the times I feel proud of the "fab community" xx

I am hoping the same. I have never been as low as the OP appears to be but I have been very self conscious and depressed. Joining fab has helped that greatly.

As you say it is great to see the positive and helpful comments from the community.

Some of the OP previous posts in other threads have always had a hint of concern but came more across as slightly difficult than depression. Which has gained a few more blunt replies to him.

Hope he takes what was said on board. And gets the outside support he needs.

I really hope OP is ok , I have been affected by my weight all my life I was a slim size 12 in my early teens only to been told over and over by family I would be so pretty if I lost a few lbs ! This has had a lasting effect and along with other shit left me with a feeling of never being good enough, it doesn’t matter how many times you are beautiful sexy lovely the feeling never goes well for me anyway! Being on here and being with someone who loves me unconditionally has helped my confidence a little but I will always struggle, you then get stuck in the eating because you’re pissed off about being fat and the eating making you fat lol ! Obviously exercise is the biggest key but exercising when you’re too heavy for some can be a sweaty painful awkward embarrassing affair which you then shy away from ! Sorry didn’t mean this to end up being another fat girl story Going back to the OP I really hope he has some people in his life that can look out for him x
