"I totally get how you feel. Having someone you like work alongside you can totally improve how you work as well. Someone left in April time and I was gutted, she was like another mum to me and we got on so well. Luckily still speak to her and I’ve seen her quite recently, but work was hard for a while without her there " Yeah we'll be staying friends as we've both got to know each other really well with it just being the two of us in the office most of the time, but I'll miss chatting to her through the day about anything and everything and just having someone working with me who is competent. She'll be replaced but you never know what you're going to get

"Anyone else ever felt really gutted about it? We brought a girl in a year ago to help me with my job which was rapidly getting far too busy for one person, she sat with me learning the job for a couple of months and we've worked really closely and really well all last year and become good friends in and out of work, it completely changed the job for me in a good way as I was very close to leaving the previous year. She's now had an offer of a better opportunity from her previous employer and has taken it which came as a big shock to me! I'm happy for her but also really sad that she'll be going and our laughs and banter will be gone, it's got me contemplating my own future here now. No real point to this post other than venting and feeling a bit shitty today! Good staff are very hard to find!!" Someone's got a crush

"So Op -whats new -you wanted to fuck her and missed your chance? Move on -lifes too short for regrets" It's actually not about that, I know I'm not her type anyway, it's genuinely down to us being like best mates at work and it making what is a dull but busy and stressful job bearable (aside from the money). I've had a few ups and downs here since I started four years ago but the last year has been good.

Male or female colleagues, it does destroy a huge part of what makes a job tolerable. I was in the exact same situation. Thankfully the new colleague ended up fitting in to the same role quite well.

Gives me a sense of worth, satisfaction and belonging. Given I have to spend the majority of my life begrudgingly working it makes a massive difference. One person can effect that dynamic intensely. So yeah, I feel your pain. No harm in looking around for other options.
