There is some disgusting people in the world we live in, I was out last night and ended up nearly fighting, was sat in a take away after a night out and sone young lad said something really disgusting to me. I am not even going to repeat on here what he said, but worthy of sticking up for myself. I am not a fighter but will defend myself.

There are some odious specimens. The local area is rife. I’m sorry you experienced that OP. You can only hope that standing up for yourself in a non-aggressive way will make them think twice next time.

Had he been drinking ?

I'll never take a piss head on

Some would argue with a wall with a couple of drinks inside them

Words are words

If it spiralled to assault however, they'd be having a bit back

I don't think he really looked that d*unk. I think most people would of reacted, I am not an aggressive person. But sometimes you need to stand up.

The problem is late at night he probably had been drinking and maybe taking chemical substances and not in control of himself, perhaps actually looking for a fight and will never remember in the morning... I wouldn't take it as personal. You could have either got seriously injured or arrested for assault and would he have been worth that? Seriously never a good idea to lower yourself to another's quite questionable standards at anytime.

The best thing to do is walk away! If they persist in following you turn around and hold your hands up as if you're backing off. Just for show for the cameras. Then you can kick the shit out of him and use self defence. A copper told me that!

Good way to think about it. It was a really good night up to that point. I think the guy needs to look at himself in the mirror. I was on my own and he had 3 or 4 mates arround him.

Between Scylla and Charybdis

That's a crap situation OP, especially when you're minding your own business and someone starts on you. The bigger man does walk away but sometimes getting involved physically is necessary. A word of advice though, always make sure your take away order's ready to go before you knock them out

Sounds like a good piece of advice!

But seriously, Saturday nights out are notoriously marred by people getting off their heads. We often hear about the impact of this culture on our NHS but less so about it's impact on the police. The cost of policing this sort of behaviour week in week out takes valuable resource away from where it is needed most. Too many people are left on the breadline and needing food banks for the sake of allowing people the freedom to bring harm to others through their own personal drinking habits. They should start billing the pissheads for police time if they hanger garner their attention...by the minute!

Didn't effect me when I used too. Actually made me harder and hornier! Yes there's a mental health issue. If it's legalized you can get different strains to enhance your mood etc.

Happens all the time. A group of lads who can't handle their booze and showing off in front of their mates. Probably wouldn't say boo to a goose if he was on his own. Coward!

You did well not to rise to it mate. Imagine smacking him one and ending up with an assault charge. Not worth the hassle.

Oh yes and that doesn't get treated either along with plain old addiction ... it all has it's downfalls. I don't think banning one thing and replacing it with another with a different set of problems is going to work!

Happened to me outside Funny Girls in Blackpool, waiting for a friend to arrive, dressed. Next thing I know there’s a bunch of lads pointing and laughing at me. Eventually one builds up the courage to get up close. I quietly said to him, imagine how you’re going to look if I knock you out, you think anyone’s going to forget that ?

He backed off but I must admit I was pretty messed up for the rest of the night. At first I was angry and he was a typical weak looking chav type, but thinking about it, I was taking a massive risk.

Just need to be careful how far you go to defend yourself.

There’s really only a few out comes of fighting in the street.

The fight is won, some one ends up hurt, the other ends up arrested. Now, it’s eityer left there or it gets escalated into some one taking revenge. No one really wins

They can't do anything if it's self defence. As long as it clearly shows it on cctv. Never throw the first punch.

Totally agree. There was a really good documentary about this a few years back. I think it was called one punch kill or something. Families left devastated over a simple d*unken argument.

If you have you have to fight you have to fight. If someone's throwing punches at you you can't just stand there. Always fight back! If they're fighting then they should expect a fight back. I bet it's people who picked on the weak kids in school and got away with it. What goes around comes around I'm afraid. Anyone who purposefully hurts someone should expect to get hurt back, basic math. Cause and effect, they're causing it and it's effecting you. Defend yourself at all costs! If someone's shouting at you... shout louder!

That's fine but a word of caution. Idiots like that can easily have knifes on their person and whatever it was he said to you it isn't worth the risk of you getting stabbed and losing your life. That little cretin might end up locked up for a long time but you'll be a long time dead. Walk away and ignore, that's my advice.
