Manners

London

So went out with a few work friends to grab a bite to eat. A few of us waiting in reception for the others to come down before head off together.

One girl has the hiccups, tries everything to get rid of them, says she's stepping out to get fresh air.

Last few come down to reception and we're all waiting for her to come back, I message her, no reply and I look outside she's not there, maybe she went back up for something, so I call. She doesn't answer but replies:

Sorry no, I’ve gone home! Didn’t fancy it in the end, have a good night though! X

Personally, if I didn't feel it I'd let the others know first before I left to go home...

Not sure if that's just me but I felt like that was really inconsiderate

It got me thinking about manners and social etiquette and how people think inwardly without consideration for others around them.

Not to ramble on but it just annoyed me.

Would you do that?

Manners and being polite are very big things to me, regardless of you you are. Friend or stranger.

I try to be polite to everyone unless I am give good reason not to be, even then I'm no a huge fan of it haha just the way I have been brought up.

I've learned that these traits are getting much more rare, this applies to friends just as much as strangers too.

Norfuck! / Lincolnshire

That’s not the done thing! And manners cost nothing but convey a lot about you as a person

We have friends that do that kind of thing.

It’s know as a ‘Houdini’ ... very rude

Made me think a little differently of her to be honest. Also taught me a lesson with how to approach her going forward.

Maybe next time we'll just leave without her when she goes to the loo

no im not rude generally.

but i remember you when i was on the site a few years ago and you were bloody rude in the chatroom.

so i find it surprising you have the nerve to complain about anyone else.

I’m the type of person to arrange a night out with work on a Friday, look forward to it all week but when Friday comes I can’t think of any thing worse.

I'd be pretty pissed off about that and treat her in the same way from that point on.

That's really rude to just leave like that without saying anything. Unless she was feeling crappy and when the fresh air hit her she just wanted to go home.

She could still have texted to let you know not to wait though.

She maybe thought you'd try convince her to stay so decided just to go.

Not texting to say is rude though.

It shows what they really think of you.

If they were empathetic, I they would let you know.

This shows exactly their feelings... You can do with ditching people like this

That's pretty out of order.

She must have known you were all waiting for her surely.

Ignorant.

. If someone has made the effort to organise a nite out and you have met at the bar then for whatever reason you are not feeling it let them know face to face that you no longer fancy it or maybe tag along for the first part of the evening. It costs nonething to speak to someone for a few minutes to tell them how you feel. It’s called good manners and respect.

Manners should be second nature, but some people fail to grasp the importance of them, those people I care less about and don't want them in my life.
