How did you decide your childs name?

Did it come easily?

Did you have a name right from the start?

Or was it really difficult, and you only thought of a name when your child was born?

I was Caitlin for a week after being born until my auntie said I looked like another name...and my mum went with it

Did you and your partner agree on a name?

Is your child named after a relative or is it just a name you liked?

I had a name all picked out. When she arrived she didn’t suit it at all. She was ‘baby girl’ until we figured the only name that suited was the jokey pet name I had for the ‘bump’. She’s not called bump.

Manchester (she/her)

I don't have kids, but I'd try to pick a name that isn't likely to attract bullying (best as I can tell), and isn't desperately trendy or old fashioned (unless it's a traditional name, male names do this better generally. John versus say Phyllis). Unlike many, I'd probably try to avoid continuing family names, because Aunt Sue will certainly be offended that I named my kid after Aunt Marjory, and I've seen that crap rumble on for decades.

I'd love to give my hypothetical child a name with a nice meaning (and there are some I'd avoid on the meaning front), but it'd be secondary to those considerations.

Bollocks. Nod to Harry Potter and a nice name. Shame."

That bastard ruins everything

We genuinely like the name Harry as well but god we’d never hear the end of it. MIL used to call baba Harry until we eventually told her she uses his name or nothing at all

Just make sure he doesn't turn evil

I quite like Albus. Alby seems quite popular nowadays.

.

My Dad had a name he absolutely loved for me but my mum and her pretension won in the end.

The names I love for boys have already been vetoed because of my surname sadly. For girls there are two I absolutely adore and hopefully one day soon I'll get to use them - they are both literary nods and not that common.

Brighton - even Hove!

Gertrude or Philomena

I quite liked the name Athabasca but was shouted down. Probably quite rightly.

I found it really difficult to decide as I wanted something rare and unusual and I'm so picky. My partner isn't too fussy so it was whatever I decided pretty much. It took me about four months to decide on a name. It is inspired by astronomy and it's perfect for my little one. I always get compliments and nobody I've come across has heard of it before.

Now, I've been thinking of a boys name for years and I still can't think of any I love. I'm screwed if I have a boy.

I'll add it to the list. It sounds like something I'd order at Domino's though.

() My Aunt was a Winnie bless her. I really love Montgomery for a boy - he'd be Monty and that would be so cuuute! But no, never happening sadly.

When pregnant i only had a boy name chosen which everyone hated . It was “Ira” and everyone told me i couldn’t name a boy that in this country!! They were relieved it was a girl and I chose a “ normal” Hebrew name.

My daughter's name is a Middle Eastern town, my son's is a Celtic name. He loves being the only person in a large boys school with that name. (Thank goodness he's not a little git and is infamous for all the wrong reasons!).

I was a teacher; it was really tricky to think of names I didn't associate with pupils who were... er... "a challenge " .

I’ve only ever worked with kids so I can sympathise there! Was bloody awful. C would love a name and it would be like ‘nope, I hated that kid...’
