New forest area

Hi all

What is it with clothes sizes?

I tried on 2, 32" waist jeans. One fitted well, the other was way too big.

I then tried on, at a different shop, 2 30" waist jeans. 1 fit ( and I bought it) and the other was too small.

Why are they not the same size?!

It's because the majority of clothing is now manufactured in overseas sweat shops whose standards are low.

There is no such thing as a standard size nowadays.

A lot of people in the west, Campaigners politicians etc criticise other countries like china, India, Indonesia over there human rights,

But most of the west's fashion companies make there clothing over there,

Slavery hasn't stopped its just moved into a different market

I thought there had been a lot of baclash over that?

And is that true for every clothes store?

I can be anything from a 12 to 18, M to XL

Depending on where I shop!?

I rarely wear trousers, trying to get leg length to match my waist is almost impossible

It’s true that standardised sizing no longer exists! It varies not only from shop to shop - but often from garment to garment!

It’s true that the majority of clothing is manufactured in developing nations - but not true that all factories in those nations are ‘sweat shops’ with underage workers, low pay etc!

Some retailers have far higher ethical trading standards than others - and it certainly isn’t always the higher end shop!

If you’re concerned op (and others) - look on a retailers/brand website and search for their ethical trading policy!

I always have to try on before I buy, I can't be bothered sending stuff back

It just staggers me. I went and tried on in 3 different shops. Next. M&S. And I bought a pair from River Island.

I am normally a 32". I ended up buying a 30".

Assuming the above shops all have ethical trading policies where is the quality assurance?

Surely we should be able to go to a shop and say. I want a UK size x. And you try on a few different patterns, but they all fit. Job done.

It's in their interests to make sure they are the same size if they say they're the same size!

It's crazy these days, I can be anything from a size 8 to a size 12 ... depending on where I shop ... bloody nuts.. innit

I never bother looking at labels. I just pick the one that looks like it will fit and go try it on. Size means sod all.

I ordered a dress a size too big, I should of known better as it was coming from China. Way too small!

I used to work security for a finishing plant, imported suits that were made in Portugal, Israel and other places for several big clothing names.

The suits cost about £4 each, they had to be pressed and buttons added and stored.

This was back in the 90's, I doubt they are paying much more for the suits.
