I've just been 'told off' for being too lazy to write on my profile. Surely it isn't that important is it? Do guys really use profile text as an incentive to get in touch? I think not

I think an empty profile suggests lack of effort.

Some people do read them. It gauges what they're looking for.

An empty or unimaginative profile tends to suggest lack of effort. I maintain what i believe is a good profile with the hope that people who I message can find out enough about me to decide whether to reply.

I'd simply delete a message from an empty profile. I'm hoping to have fun with interesting people, not photos.

It is laziness on my part and concluded that since most don't read it simply isn't worth my effort. I do prefer messaging, you learn more about them and some guys are nothing like how they their profile describes

There and to the left a bit

I read them but honestly don't think it's as important for ladies as it is for guys to have a well written and expansive profile - so if it works for you OP then stick to what you're happy with.

Would I meet or even approach someone that had a fairly blank profile, who I'd not seen around the forums and got a feel for that way, or entered into a message dialogue with to get to know them? Probably not, certainly not without a lot of messaging first.

Some read them, some don't.

It gives a brief indication in to what each person is about. Narrows down the decision process. Makes sending a first message easier, able to make it personalised instead of run of the mill copy and paste type message.

It is a very formal and rigid description though. Some of us are much more suited to live engagement, personality comes through much better with somebody to bounce conversation off.

How can I just skip to the bottom to pick up that phrase you want me to include in my message header to pretend I’ve read the profile, if your blurb is that short?

And where is the ranty list of demands and hoops I need to jump through before you’ll just delete my message unread anyway?

Poor effort all around I think!

To be fair it does make messaging easier, as it provides a topics of conversation, plus helps filter people you're interested in.

Though definitly dont think necessary or super helpful even (just becsuse so many people completely ignore it).

I think that things like this highlight the basic differences between the genders on fab; a lack of profile text for a lady can be a good way to out the kind of people that they don't want to hear from, whereas with a guy it shows a lazy approach.

"I've just been 'told off' for being too lazy to write on my profile. Surely it isn't that important is it? Do guys really use profile text as an incentive to get in touch? I think not "

Here's the fact

For a vast majority of men you would most likely never want to chat to let alone meet profile text is of course needless

However to attract the more rare and discerning gentlemen profile text is vital

So in a nutshell

No text equals all the dross and very few worthwhile

Good text equals all the dross, but more worthwhile and something for the worthwhile to use to communicate with you they may be worth a reply

I have to admit I do enjoy reading certain profiles that have humour. Some are very well written. I keep mine basic and have said before use my forum posts or status updates as an extension of my profile. Like live updates.

I am similar in saying and often doing my own thing. Sometimes going against the grain even though that on occasions does not sit well with a few forumites.

I'm a fussy fucker, so it takes more than the word 'female' to interest me.

Assuming you are looking for a man my age (and I'm not blocked from messaging), then I want to see profile text, which tells me about yourself and what you expect from a potential meet.

How else will you pique my interest? (or just as importantly, let me know not to bother).

Poor spelling and grammar, can be offputting but humour is definitely a bonus.

Pictures don't influence me. They are only useful, if we are compatible enough, to consider meeting.

Occasionally, there's a profile which breaks convention, in a pleasing way...

Autumn's, for example: Brief and uninformative - clearly not intended to attract meets, yet somewhat poetic and delightfully written.

It’s your profile. Keep It as you wish. If it’s working for you and you get what you want from it then all good.

If you don’t. Then change it. There’s lots of profile advice here.

Um.. sorry to disagree, but good looking pictures alone do not make for an appealing profile.

Don't be sorry for your opinion. How about the ones that are so long you feel like you have read a Wilbur Smith novel and they want you to type the 'code word' in your opening message? "

Plagiarising inxs is still a poor profile

Again you will reap what you sow

Are you trying to suggest the fab format is not worth your effort and you are somehow ridiculing the fact that mostly you will receive diabolical trite messages

I would have thought you may want to attract a certain type of person , I can't see your profile doing that

I do findyself returning to your profile now and again.

1. To perv, clearly rude not to

2. To to refresh on the checklist rules.

I don't think a profile needs to be read just about you, but regardless of what it contains it helps give a good idea of the general attitude of the person and helps kickstart a convo.

A blank profile however doesn't give that and everything is based on looks alone. Which to be honest is no different than offline interaction.

I agree with this, profiles are very rigid in a way. Free flowing convo is by far the best way to know if somebody is truly on the same page as you and accurate indication if you will get along.

I always reply with a no thanks (with the exception of the rude ones) I presume they then block. Plus I have strict filters which also greatly reduces the amount of mail I get so no that is not my intention.

I would rather get the 'right kind' of interaction instead of mass attention. Funnily enough I get that despite my poor profile as you call it
