Somewhere In The Ether…

You know the ones; You’re enjoying the film throughout until that is, the climax, which is either completely crap, underwhelming, anticlimactic, abrupt or else just plain illogical or daft.

List here those movies which have (due to the ending) rendered you either scratching your head in befuddlement, waving your fists in anger and wanting your money back or else rolling your eyes.

Off you go

Not really just the ending, but near the end once you figure out what is happening, I could have punched the director had he been in the rough when I watched that pile of tripe

Somewhere In The Ether…

I’ll list, The Game here staring Michael Douglas.

Fantastic movie throughout until the ridiculous and hugely silly ending.

Also, one I watched the other day, Tully.

A good film until the shameless, Fight Club ripped off ending.

Good call - the whole tacked on alien angle actually cheapened all that preceded it which was such a shame as it was such a delightfully tense and claustrophobic movie until then.

Sometimes I think that open endings are a good way to finish, a big denouement wouldn't have suited the character driven film. Perhaps not the best ending ever but some good songs fade out rather than stop.

Into The Woods; It would have been a much better movie had they have ended it thirty or so minutes earlier yet the makers decided oddly, to drag it on after the main story ended.

Bone Tomahawk. A great character driven movie featuring great performances from the main cast including Kurt Russell and Patrick Wilson until the final half hour when it suddenly takes a complete turnaround into a full on Deodato’esque, cannibal torture fest.

It just didn’t sit well with me

Fatal Attraction, they actually filmed a great ending in which she kills herself and frames him for her murder. However due to test screening they decided to go for the weakest ending in my opinion.

Kill Bill Vol.2

Actually, I didn’t much like the whole film but kept watching for what promised to be a grand old final fight between Uma Thurman and dastardly David Carradine.

Alas, after talking bollocks for a seeming eternity together, the fight is over in about two seconds flat.

Bag o’shite.

Machine guns were at head height - everyone else gets shot in the face but the line of fire passes over the midget's head.

Seriously though, you're right, totally destroys the idea of self sacrifice and honour that is the bedrock of the film.

The bit when the dickhead son is alive at the end of it, despite him running off into the massive firestorm halfway through the film as the military throw everything they have at the martians in a last stand. There is no way he would have survived that when the military were all wiped out. I know it's fiction but give it some credibility instead of Spielberg family values.

I wasn't even sure that the guy they were driving to, actually killed her, I think it was just an act of desperation for resolution on their part. That's why I thought the ending was good; the ambiguity and uncertainty.
