Blimey,

This has really suprised me. Sarah and I call each other hun all the time. (Text / facebook).

Is it the term in general or is it when it comes from a stranger?

Like I say .. a real eye opener.

Alan

I hate hate HATE being called 'hun'. It's the one name that is guaranteed to turn me off and make me curl my lip.

And 'baby', although not as much as 'hun'.

North of The Wall - youll need your vest

No prob with hun if its someone that I know or have been chatting to.

Babe I dont particularly like, especially from strangers.

The one that I really dont like is 'dear' - I think it sounds very patronising when its written down

I don't really mind, its pleasant and well meaning. Peoples language will differ so its entirely up to them how they speak.

I don't use the word hun but I do call my OH honey if I'm texting. I don't call playmates by affectionate names. I use the word love a lot in my regular speech when describing something I like or an inanimate object like 'I love hot water bottles'

"we call everbody love in my part of the world, even the men call each other love"

This is certainly true, when I first moved to Leeds I found it odd that blokes who didn't sound camper than Graham Norton were calling me "love".

Women in particular found it funny that I was startled by it. Till I took one back up Middlesbrough and she was freaked when all the other lasses would use the word "man" to refer to her and every other female at the end of a sentence..
