I used to enjoy a glass of red wine in the evening. Unfortunately it no longer agrees with me.

It's definitely possible to tell the difference between a bottle that cost £40 and one that cost £4

Not that I had many £40 bottles

I am an unapologetic wine snob.

I like good wine and you can really taste the difference.

Dry January is killing me I was given a fair amount of wine over Christmas from a friend in Macon.

When I cook I like wine and I can’t have it.

I miss booze.

No we aren’t wine snobs, wouldn’t know or want to know where to begin. We’ve been on a few meals from work with pretentious wine snobs, wanting to show off their knowledge but it all just goes in one ear and out the other.

Whenever we are on holiday in Italy it is simply a litre jug of their local Vino on the table, which costs a few euros and always seems to taste delicious.

Here we never let them leave the wine menu on the table. Just bring us a bottle of the house wine or better still a couple of bottles of Peroni.

I drink very little wine, it sends me to sleep, I rarely remember a thing, and an usually hanging the next day, sometimes two.

It may be because my wine glasses hold half a bottle and its easy to drink more than you think you have, but I'm blaming the wine not my measurements today

Yep, the difference is £37. To me, it's red or white. Red makes me ill, white I can drink until I wish I hadn't, but that's pretty rare.

Do you mean someone who will only buy expensive stuff, whilst not having a clue what they're actually drinking and looking down on those who buy in supermarkets?

Or someone who actually knows a lot about wine and can recognise a good from a bad wine?

There's plenty of the former...trust me. I used to sell wine and had many a twat come in for a tasting that didn't have a clue but were easily persuaded to spend a packet on whatever overpriced plonk I suggested. But knowing one grape from another and having knowledge doesn't always make you a wine snob.

I bought two magnums of Lambrini for £2.50 each at Xmas whilst having a couple of bottles of bubbly worth £300+ each in the cupboard. The former tasted lovely. I suspect the expensive stuff would taste like shit after being moved from home to home over the last 20 years......

I used to be a sommelier at a posh hotel near Edinburgh so I know how to match wines to food as well

Good wine does not necessarily mean expensive. Especially with some up and coming wine producers even in the Uk.

The best bit about it is trying out loads until you find one you like.

I'm very much the same, I worked in the wine trade and therefore know about what makes certain wines more expensive and revered above others.My tipple of choice however is £3 from Aldi, so definitely not a wine snob, just knowledgeable.

I would add though that these days, the general market for wine is based on brand names followed by grape varieties.Nobody much in general is bothered about French wine regions, the difference in making the wines,terroir etc,which is the main difference between old and new world wines

I lived in France.

They knew their wines but were not snobs about it. They mainly bought bottles under 10 euro.

What they were really really great at was picking the right wine with the right food. They didnt go to a bar and order a bottle, they had one glass with their dinner and the one glass matched the meal perfect.

I enjoyed that, but dunno about picking wines myself.
