Watching the crow last night and heard nine inch nails version of dead souls. For me it lacks the intensity of the joy devision version. There is a raw energy about it that the polished Hollywood version of the song lacks

The original is how it was written and intended to be heard - that said I do like a decent cover when the original has been changed sufficiently to make it almost a different song or the covering artist have made it their own.

Boy/girl band karaoke covers however do nothing for me

Is the crow the one where Bruce Lee junior got shot with a live bullet and died?? Haven't seen it in yeeears but will always remember that scene!

A good cover is great as someone above said when it is changed to almost be q different song. My favourite cover would probably be Tools cover of Led Zeppelins "No Quarter".

I think it depends

I prefer Hendrix All Along the Watchtower but that's the one I heard first

I prefer Hurt by NIN but a lot of people prefer Johnny Cash because that was their intro to the song

Agree with this, Johhny Cash's rendition of U2's one is far more poignant.

Doctor and The Medics cover of Spirit in the sky was better than Norman Greenbaum's original etc.

Most modern music seems to be a disaster, I think the last real youth movement was Britpop!
