To save daughter and son in law doing it all, as they have for the past three years, we're allowing a local hotel to entertain us, with a wide menu so everyone has selected whatever they want. It can wipe out part of your family for almost the whole day if they spend it all in the kitchen. So, relaxation for all.

It’s my turn to host my family so that’s 12 of them around my table. It’s only my turn every 5 years so I don’t mind it too much.

So I’m cooking a rib of beef and a Turkey which I brine in spiced water a la Nigella. Traditional accompaniments including sprouts and parsnips along with carrots and stuffing and Yorkies with the beef.

My sister is bringing the starter which will be fish based and we have a Christmas pud, a panna cotta and a cheesecake. Then cheese and biscuits with port.

I can’t wait!

I’m spending xmas day at the mothership this year as I missed it last year. So I’ll have mama’s perfectly cooked Turkey and her honey and mustard ham with all the trimmings. Dessert is likely to be Miniature Heroes.

Traditional roast turkey dinner here with choice of starters and desserts, cheese board, brandy and coffee and mints. Lots of champagne and wine and then collapse with a full belly.
