I do it all the time if I’ve no time to reply. It marks it out so it doesn’t get lost.

Because you don't have time to reply straight away so may come back to it.

Because it's someone you don't like the look of and you can't be arsed getting abuse for saying no thanks.

Not enough time to reply so will come back later.

Some get stroppy if you read and don't reply, so it's easier to mark it unread.

The right place

To make someone think you haven’t read it.

Or a way of bookmarking to read later.

So you don't mistakenly delete it when clearing your inbox.

A handy way for couples to know what messages have or haven't been read.

I routinely mark unread my messages, ok, message, just so I get the buzz of seeing one unread message. Ok, it is the message saying my site supporter has ran out, but an unread message is an unread message....

Just couples? It’s handy for me and I’m on here as a singleton

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

It's also for males to be able massage your own ego and make it look like we receive more messages then just the "thank you for renewing your membership"..

If I can see the message is going to be abusive or nasty or one that’s sent for shock value, I will wait til the sender is offline and read it to make sure and then mark it as unread so it really pisses them off that their vile abuse or attention seeking has gone unnoticed.

"When I can't be arsed to reply, which is quite often."

25 unread faf messages and now I find out you couldn’t be arsed to reply - I don’t know why I waste my time!

Sorry, your 25 easily get lost in the 350 others. You've got my number

So people don't know you have read their message and to irritate them that you haven't read their abuse.

Exactly this

Or, Occasionaly, it's a nice decent message. The profile might interest me, but at that point in time I don't have time to send an adequate reply.

Mark unread so the sender doesn't think they're being ignored & I'll reply when I can

Good analogy, makes the most sense. Thank you

So you can treasure the fact that you have a message and an rejoice in implying to the sender that you have to wade through lots of messages# and that the sender one is in a queue.

# Singles blokes, this works for about 36hrs and the penny begins to drop that this is what you are doing

I use it when I don't have time to reply but curious abt the message itself.

As I don't want to send the impression that the message was good enough to read but not to reply I use the unread button and reply as soon as I have more time.

Oh yes I do that as well, mark unread and ignore, don't give them the attention they're after
